Rang guy said he bought it for daughter to drive to collage but see going to a further collage so will not be driving said all he can see it needs two tyres for a test out a month sounds a very genuine man too

If it just needs two tyres ask him to put it through the NCT and you'll give him a bit more for it. Lights and decals along the side look ****e.

And theres no way its got 13,500 miles tbh.

Looks don't bother me too much
Just wondering in general any problems with these cars I should look for ya I think it's 135k

Those cars aren't bad. The thing is though you could get a much better example for not much more.

I would aim for a 1.0 version though as it's a good bit cheaper to tax.

Im not sure if the saxo came in 1liter but it's sister car, the peugeot 106 did.

Pedals are awfully close together on those Saxos too. If you've driven a Cinquecento/Seicento you'll know.

I was going to go with that corrola I was on about but he wants 1200 for it just passed nct today until till 1/15 and it's a saloon 00 too much?

Imo it's about the going rate for an average example with average miles.

What's the best things to look for when looking at that silver 00 corrola I posted earlier.
Going looking tomorrow anything specific that I should look at regarding them

Not really. Its a 13 y/o car so just look at it as you would any other car of the same age. At this age it falls down to the particular car and not the model in general.

that particular one is a little tired looking if i'm honest. what particularly draws you to it? its a high miler and a a little rough.

those early 1.4 vvti's weren't toyotas finest effort. check its not an oil burner (a recent NCT pass would suggest it mightn't be). listen for a rattling timing chain and for rattling from the inlet manifold while driving. afaik the inlet manifold can stay broken and it wont affect the engines running but the noise would drive you nuts.

the electric window controls on the driver side can go too so check that and working second hand ones are getting hard come by too. the rear suspention arb bushings and links are also prone to wear but having passed the NCT recently they should be ok too.

if you were to step back a year to a 99 model, the 1.3 engine is far better quality and just as peppy as the 1.4.

I did doubt that link too. But I've put all of my regs in and they've all come back correct. And being honest, my gut tells me the Almera doesn't have NCT.

I like that generation of Sonata, I reckon the 2.4 model will be down to €2,000 soon.

The 1.4 vvti isn't as bad as some make out. Yes some do burn oil but it isn't that much of an issue if you service the car every 6 to 7k miles instead of the recommended 9. Obviously keeping an eye on the oil level in between services is also a must as well.

Having owned both I found the vvt-i to be smoother and quieter than the 4e-fe. It also felt less strained at motorway speed and has lighter power steering.(the steering in the 4e can feel a touch heavy when turning in tight spaces).

Having said all that, the 4e-fe is the tougher unit.
They just go and go and give very little issues. They can also withstand lots of neglect, something I doubt a vvti could do.

As for bushing and links they are cheap to replace. The things to check are the rear shock absorbers. They are a weak point on those corollas.

i had a real ****heap heart breaker of the 1.4 vvti before and i think it has just left a bad taste in my mouth if i'm honest. it was like a screwed out d-turbo for smoke... that said i had a 1600 SR vvti and it was an absolute peach, ran like a dream. had at least 2 4e powered corollas and i just prefer the engines robustness, if the 4e were chain driven it would be my dream :P

that being said i would much prefer a facelift car overall, as you said, the 1400 is still a nice engine and the facelift is much more handsome on the outside, not to mention the massive leap in interior standards from the pre facelift.

i did mean to add that the rear suspension bits are pretty cheap. bushes around €3 per side and a DIY'er could change the pair in 20 mins.

So for 1200 if everthing looks ok that a ok price can also get same year and milage but the bug eye model for same price but not as clean imo

id get the bug eye. that said if you claim the bug eye isn't as clean as that silver one it must be quite bad because the silver one is quite tatty.

personally wouldn't go more than 950 - 1k tops for the silver one.

I'd go for the bug eye one too.

Although even €1k seems a bit steep tbh. As I've said before, I posted one a few pages back with brand new NCT for €650.

mainly looks. arguably a more robust engine in the bug eye.

the overspray on the mudflap would have me questioning a few things. different style reg plates front and rear.
mainly i suppose the towbar, the high mileage and the muck absolutely ground into the drivers footwell wouldn't make me fall in love with it, i'd say that corolla has seen a hard life.

your money would get you much more elsewhere, particularly with such a plentiful car as a corolla.

good advice has two qualities, do you know what they are?
