Haven't had Clonakilty sausages since I was in college many a moon ago, but just had one there and sweet jaysus do they beat the ****e out of Denny!

So what brand do After Hours reckon is the best for a sausage feed?

Vaguely remember there was a place in the Cork English Market you could get fancy butchery ones which were pretty good, and of course the old superquinn ones were pure daycent!

Countrystyle sausages from Co Waterford are better than superquinn or Clonakilty.

I have heard good reports of Lidl and Aldi as well.

But I wouldn't stray from Clon black pud which is boss.

Dunnes Stores Simply Better before Olehausen went out of Business. They were delicious when they were previously made by Olehausen, now they're made by Mallons and they're just meh!

I always ate Olhausens, still disappointed by others. Granby are ok, I'll usually pick up some of the lidl ones though. Only problem is they're prone to shrinking a lot.

Both Aldi and Lidl do nice speciality sausages, love the beef ones.
Barry Johns from Cavan do a good range, Honey and Mustard, Pork and leeks and a good breakfast sausage with bacon, egg ,tomato and mushroom. They have won the Craft Butcher competition a few times.

I read that Olhausens and Kearns are the same company and they are also responsible for Aldi and Lidl's own brand. I don't know if they changed maker when Olhausen's went busted for a couple of months

There's a craft butchers on Pearse Street Dublin that have the nicest sausages I have ever tasted and hat goes for pudding too. Expensive compared to supermarket ones though!

FX Buckley Butchers in Nutgrove Shopping Centre are doing proper Beef Sausages now that I think of it - a bit longer to cook but very much worth the extra wait! *drool*

Even Ireland's worst supermarket brand sausage is better than the rubbery ****e they pass off as sausages over here in England!

I brought 4 packs of clonakilty over in my checked-in luggage for the semester! And 3 packs of Galtee rashers! Froze them in twos. Heading back in a few weeks and will stock up on some more.

The ones from the Old English Market in Cork, they're called O'Flynns gourmet sausages. No others come close. They do all sorts - pork, chicken, beef mixed with all sorts of other ingredients from leeks to sun dried tomatoes. Yum yum.
