What seems to have eluded many scholars is that the sequence of events and locations of Jesus ministry are more or less the same as the sequence of events and locations of the military campaign of [Emperor] Titus Flavius as described by Josephus. This is clear evidence of a deliberately constructed pattern.

Not necessarily. Academics moves slowly to accept new evidence (peer review is thorough, but takes a long time), and a lot of shocking stories that are definitely true never get the press they deserve.

If this did become established as compelling enough evidence to be accepted as fact, it would take ages, and would meet massive resistance from anyone invested in it not being true. And as we're all well aware by now, most of the religions based around jebubs are considerably wealthier than academic bodies.

It's unusual, and a little unlikely, but we'll have to wait and see to be sure, won't we?

As much as I dislike it, if I was landed back into government of an ancient civilization, I'd be inventing Religion pretty sharpish to get things going my way.

Headline is awfully misleading. It seems there is no actual "Yeah, we invented Jesus" type confession - just this guy saying he has found what he thinks proves Jesus was a fictional character based on someone else.

Then you have the fact that the the new testament blatantly paints Rome as "the enemy", how does that fit in with trying to pacify Jews in Palestine?

To be honest, it sounds like Da Vinci code-esque nonsense.

But it wasn't till Constantine the great that Christianity became the state religion of the roman empire at lest 290 years after Jesus was (or ment to have been) born that's some forward planning wouldn't you think?on top of that there was quite a few emperors between then and year 1 that actively persecuted them on top of that the idea of Rome imposing a single believe in a single god goes completely against their own idea of religion and their pantheon of gods they didn't like Christians cause Christians would not believe in any god but their god.

This doesnt make sense from what i know

"Let's wait and see how peer review deals with it" is jumping on anything that disproves your god, is it? Perhaps you'd like to notify the Boards.ie office about such a grossly offensive statement?
