A female friend of mine's surname is Cockshoot. It has led to many moments of "hilarity" over the years, but my fave is one time she was checking into a hotel and the receptionists were literally choking on themselves trying not to laugh at her surname. Feeling slightly irritated after her flight and the joke being played out in front of her for the thousandth time she said "yes, it's bloody Cockshoot" and stormed off with her hotel key and luggage into the toilets beside reception to cool down. It was only when faced with the wall of urinals that she realised she had stormed into the gents, thus leaving her with the now unenviable task if having to walk out and pass reception again on the way to get room as the receptionists tried to hide under the counter. True story - but you should hear her tell it for full comedic effect!

I knew of someone whose surname was Kuntz - pronounced Koonts apparently. I was at a ceremony once where this person's name was being read out and they had all the names listed in the programme as well. The whole audience was on the edge of their seat waiting to see how the MC would announce her name.

He pronounced it "correctly" - unfortunately!
