Was tempted, but really wanted a cheap upgrade, the 7970 would be €270 odd vs €225 for the 7950.

So breadboarded new MSI z77 motherboard on table, nothing connected except i5-2500k, 24 pin ATX, 4 pin cpu, DVI and USB keyboard. jumpstarting with power pins and screwdriver.

Motherboard goes into an infinite boot loop with any stick of RAM in DIMMs 1 or 2, boots just fine every time with either one or two sticks in DIMM slots 3 or 4 (I have tried 4-5 different stick as well with pretty well the same results).

Rechecked the motherboard CPU pins definitely nothing bent or damaged.

Reset CMOS removed battery numerous time always the same result.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try or can we pretty much conclude faulty motherboard DIMMs at this point?

Can you try a bios update, see if that helps as could be poorly written code in older bios?

Is it the MPOWER? A quick google throws up the fact that the bios reads the wrong sticks as compared with the physical markings. So if you need to populate the first in each channel for proper operation it may not be the ones you think. Probably should boot either ways.

I didn't wanna start a new thread so I'll post here instead. I built up my pc about a year ago and while I really do like it I much prefer console gaming. I was just wondering how much I should be looking at for my rig. Just a rough estimate.
Mobo - ASRock Z77 pro 3.
Ram - 8 GB G.SKill
Case - Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus
CPU - I5 3570k
GPU - ASUS Direct CuII Top V2 7950
Hard Drive 1 - Samsung 830 128GB

No its a much less fancy z77m-G45, as far as I can tell the matching Dimms for dual channel are 1&3 and 2&4, looking at the colour coding and the manual both suggest that 1+2 are the primary DIMMs for each channel and are fubared.

Can you post a link or two describing the MPOWER problems anyway just in case.

Yes, you could, it's worth about 750 all new parts by my (revised and slightly conservative estimate). It's still worth 700 plus if it comes as a package IMO, whether it comes with Windows etc too is a bonus.

That PC is way more powerful than current and next gen for that matter.

I used to game on pcs about 15-20 years ago when I was a kid but graduated to consoles when I got a bit older and ive only gone back to pc's since january of this year, built my first custom pc with the help of the good people here:) I have to say I dont really see myself going back to console for anything other than casual multiplayer, my main gaming will be on pc.

There are 2 things I have to say though that I dont like about pc gaming
1. The lack of people that I know to play multiplayer with (thats the reason ill be picking up a PS4). I have about 30 friends on xb 360 and ps4 that I know personally and loved/love gaming with them but the cutting edge of gaming is PC for me at the moment.
2. It can be very time consuming as in picking parts and researchimg them and most games ive found need some sort of setup time. Take dayz for example and just mods for games in general,they take time to setup and you have to learn to install them and stuff, although I do have to say I think mods are a fantastic addition to gaming. Which they could be proted to console somehow!

Although its turned out I actually really like the hardware side of it, time consuming as it is:)

I find it more enjoyable due to friends etc playing on console. I understand the hardware side of things fairly well and know that my rig will still be a good bit more powerful than next gen consoles and there's always the opportunity to upgrade my hardware.
The only things keeping me from selling my pc are
A) Work. I do a few 3D/2D models using various programs like solidworks every so often for companies like Instant UpRight.

I have a few games pre-ordered for pc.

I'd love to be able to keep it and get an xbone/ps4 but I'm big into cycling and need to pick up a new frame for racing next season so most of my money is going into that.

I was holding off for the BF 4 beta hoping that that might change my mind but I've found it to be absolutely rubbish. I dunno.

Do you really think so? Second hand gear a year into (and maybe past) its warranties would need a heftier write-down than that for me to consider it, personally.

I agree, the beta is extremly disappointing. I do have high hopes for full release though, hopin that they just made a mistake with the beta.

Im not really gonna bother playin the beta, just gonna wait for 2 weeks. Not worth playin whats hopefully just a badly optimized version of the game for the sake of 2 early weeks of access imo

True. It's probably more likely to put you off than anything else. Did you bother getting premium or going to wait and see?
