Your 1c and 2c coins are not welcome in Wexford Town

Shoppers in Wexford Town will stop using one and two cent coins from today, in a trial that could see them removed from circulation nationwide.

The two-month-long ‘Rounding Trial’, run by the Central Bank, plans to assess the reaction of both consumers and retailers once the coin experiment comes to an end.

The Government will have the final say on whether the scheme will be taken any further.

So if you're buying something for €1.26 it gets rounded down to €1.25 and something for €1.29 will now cost €1.30. I think rounding is pretty silly. 1c and 2c should be removed fully and shops should be banned for selling products that would require the use of such coins. The idea to remove them is a good one but the way its being put into practice in Wexford Town is wrong. 1c and 2c coins are a nuisance to business and customers and it's estimated that the majority of 1c and 2c coins spend the majority of their use in jars and not actually in circulation.

Something for €9.99 is psychological pricing. The cost to produce a 1c coin is 1.07c and the cost to produce a 2c coin is over 2c too. So what do you say AH; Ban these dammed coins?

There is nothing worse then 'Mary' in the line waiting to buy 10 euro worth of goods and paying by all 1c and 2c coins. I welcome this trial. It will help cut down on the Marys and speed things up abit at the till.

So selling product by weight should be banned then, seeing as Bananas at €1.20 a kg is 80% of the time not going to come to a figure ending in 5 or 0.

Especially considering that Mary only ever has 9.60 or something like that and has to give in and use the ten euro note anyway.

so no one here sees this as an opportunity for businesses to round most things up...bringin up the cost of everyones weekly shoppin...which in turn will make others bring up their costs to cover that cost...ya know...that thing called "inflation"....

does anyone here remember the euro changeover where the govt promised that the changeover wouldnt result in higher prices...but in reality most things did go up shortly afterwards ..things ended up costing alot more as businesses saw the opportunity to fool the consumer...and the same will happen here..greedy irish:mad:

What the hell do you think the shops would do if you stopped them selling stuff at certain prices ?? They'd round everything up !!
