As has been pointed out to me in the past; people care because of our special relationship with the US. We have family/friends there. We rely on American tourism and investment. We consumer their culture (am not just talking about fast food, btw).

I don't agree with US foreign policy nor would I be happy to subject myself to aggressive TSA policing, but you would be naive to think that if this is a terrorist attack it won't increase pressure from the hawks in terms of foreign policy, it comes at a very sensitive time in global diplomatic regions regarding the middle east and could have a significant impact on US patience in the region, whether rightly or wrongly.

Like it or not, it's relevant to all of us if it's a terrorist attack. If it's another gun + mental illness homocide then yes, it isn't as relevant.

I reckon (although it's really too early) it's a disgruntled ex employee gone postal. If it is terrorism, it's a rather cynical attack during some very testing times.

Press Conference says there are 2 potential shooters that aren't located.

Both in military gear but not confirmed if they are military personal.

If the reports of assault rifles (rumored AR-15s) are true its likely that they are military issued as civilian ARs are single shot.

Can we just have a news thread for things like this? No discussion, nothing. Just the news. It's the same thread that has happened so many times before.

Wasn't there some recent warning about an escalation of terror in the US from the usual suspects, it seems fairly plausible to try and force their hand to get involved in Syria or in the middle east in general? They want to drag the US military into another conflict without exit, even better if it worsens diplomatic relations with the Chinese and Russians.

Look, it's no secret that Americans feel they deserve special treatment over others. They feel that everyone should love them and worship them and want to be like them and when anyone expresses an alternate view they get all indignant and if someone expresses apathy or lack of interest they [Americans] bristle and trot out the "if it wasn't for us you'd be living in a labour camp or speaking German" or some crap.

And a lot of people go along with this fawning because they're afraid of being called "anti-American" if they don't.

Granted being a military base there are of course gonna be some secrets and its probably nothing
