Also,I bought in some AAx weanlings,and I noticed one of the cards is reg as a male,the calf is a heifer,never had this before,any advice on changing it ?

have to get a form from the Dept and get filled out by your vet send it off. Or else you can wait until the next time you test and the vet will change it.

I reckon the factories will be sick of fr bullocks next year . I was going to buy a lock of fr bull calves in the next month or so but I came across a lad with light ch weanlins during the week and I think ill make more off them and be able to sell them next spring alot easier .

Never thought I'd be back milking cows and not under these circumstances. Family member and his labourer were both killed on Friday evening and the uncle has no family. 140 cows to milk and none tail taped or no board up so no idea what stage of lactation any are at. Milk tank was sampled yesterday but going to have to sample them all individually this evening. Any dairy people any advice as we don't know yet what the plan is short or long term. Trying to find a reliable relief milker asap.

That's terrible,sorry for your loss,put up an add looking for milker on all the websites,you should find one easy,few I can think of. Are,gumtree,donedeal farmersjournal.ie

Theres a quick antibiotic test you can get only takes a few seconds to get a results. Delaval mentioned them on this before. Sorry to here about you uncle and his worker

Yeah talking to someone else about this just this week. Seems to be reliable which would be the worry. Worth giving the co-op a call? It's in their best interests to see continuity of supply. Was he a teagasc client? They should also know of local relief milkers. And finally our famous farming union - surely helping out in situations like this is the very reason for their existence.

Edit: Or the Northern equipment equivalent.

AG - I hope it all works out. I don't know the details but it sounds like an awful tragedy.

Antrim, condolences, terrible news. Did the bulk tank test showup positive? If not I wouldn't bother testing all the cows individually, its alot of effort. Almost all farmers would have an antibiotic cow marked, esp if they have someone else working with them, so the odds are no cow has got an injection recently. Your based in the north, down south the icbf will tell you almost everything you need to know about the cows, like calving dates, milk recording records etc, I don't know if you have any equivalent up there, but it would tell you alot that you need to know. Look around in the farm office/parlour etc for any sort of calendar also, that what I use for jotting down agood few details like medicines/dryoff dates etc etc.

Yeah I noticed that at the mart alright,just found Angus hardier and easier to manage but might have to change breeds. Fond of the AA tho
