What's up with trinity's cs course being a bachelor of arts? All the other major cs courses (UCD, DIT, DCU, GMIT) are all bachelor of science and now I feel ****e cos I picked the fairiest cs course in Ireland.

BAs are more academics focused while a BS is more career focused, it really makes no difference. Universities like Cambridge offer Economics and Mathematics as a BA degree and if you think they are "fairy" courses....This big mental difference everyone seems to have developed towards the two is one of the most non-nonsensical things in Irish education.

-_- Oh dear, you having nothing to worry about careers wise. An employer looks at your course name, grade and university. They could careless about whether it was BSc or BA. There are pretty much the exact same thing. Trinity being an older university is more traditional and just gives people BAs, eg they give a bloody BA for Maths and Science.

It has nothing to do with being more "career/academic" orientated. We're an old, traditional university. Most degrees are BA here regardless of the course (I'm currently doing Physics with Astrophysics, which is hard to make into a "fairy" course).

I weep for the future of my beloved BA Mod in CS. Class of 2001, calling on the gnomes of the ORI to please tighten up the entrance criteria.

It's because Trinity is old and traditional and the BSc is only a new course title from the turn of the 20th century (or there abouts). There is literally no difference in course content between a BA and a BSc in cs and you can be assured of plenty of hours writing Java...

It's a BA (Mod) like the vast majority of Trinity degrees.

The majority of undergrad degrees from TCD are B.A. (I think it's just the medical professions, engineering and the B.Ed./B.Mus.Ed. that aren't). It has nothing to do with the content of course, rather it's because TCD is an older university and stuck with the traditional naming. Hundreds of years ago, EVERY student did a B.A. in the seven liberal arts before specialising in Theology, Medicine or Law. As such, back in the day, ALL undergrad degrees were B.A. and TCD still has some of those weird traditions. Oxford & Cambridge in the U.K. are the same, IIRC.

You can buy a TCD MA after your undergrad (or you used to be able to), but it's worthless except as an empty honorific or an attempt to lie on your CV.

The Trinity Master's degrees are the M Phil or M Litt.

Looked it up, apparently it's an 'MCS'(Masters in Computer Science).
