They are not unlike in an odd sort of way! I have very fond memories of getting ferried to football twice a week in the boot of an '87 Lada estate. Twas 1 year old at the time. Fun times.

My brothers old bangernomics. Still hasn't moved on from the new owner who had it up on DD within a day or 2 of purchase. He was looking for over 2k for it a few months back and now has dropped to €1550. I love the way he still has "Lady Owner" in the ad. My brother is no lady

Fair point Top Dog, but the thing is I know a fair few people who have done this and are still doing this recently, for the simple reason that an estate car is usually in better condition and has been subject to less abuse than a vehicle that has been a van from new.

You're right, it's not as easy as before, but for some people it's worth the couple of hundred quid and a bit of a runaround for a couple of days.

If somebody has been caught out then they probably should have taken a bit more time to research the conversion process properly and maybe rely a little less on bar stool advice.

And i,m one of them prob going back to a small car within the month as the insurance on the van ends, no saving at all being taxed private (200 every 3 months)

I always get the impression that the car has been NCT'd and failed in these cases. There isn't any way to find out if a car has been taken to the NCT and failed it, is there?

Anyway, in my experience these Xantia's are good cars, loads of space,2.0 HDi means it's very economical (50+ mpg on a long run) and very comfy. Nice commercial conversion if you're up to it and then you have half the tax to pay.
