who's the most talented - Gervais or Coogan

They're both of a similar age and equally funny, both have moved on to Hollywood to broaden their careers with each having mixed results.

But who is the most talented?? Gervais wrote the Office and Extras while Coogan created Partridge, Saxondale, Paul Calf...

Both are brilliant as live performers and have sold out everywhere they performed

So who gets your vote and why

For me its Coogan just for Partridge alone, i do find Gervais's humour a tad cruel at times.

I was the same, I started to watch it on Netflix a while back by chance.

I think it's fantastic and they could have easily have gotten another series out of the characters.

Never a huge fan of Gervais, find he is probably a little bitter still about the pop career and quite a sneering attitude to people. Worked fine as Brent but tiresome outside of that. He has some good ideas but I'd say Steven Merchant is as much responsible for the better ones. Idiot Abroad works not because of Gervais idiotic psycho laughter but Karls often brilliantly insightful solid gold view on life. Derek was quite heartless and soulless as comedy because of Gervais portrayal

I prefer Coogan. The Alan Partridge stuff is some of the best comedy ever made. He is also a very talented mimic and seems like a down to earth character

While theres no denying the office and Extras were class, its Gervais' persona I don't find appealing.
He seems very disingenuous and sneery ( if that's a word). Some posts are citing Derek as an example of his acting diversity- but whenever I watch him in this role it just seems like he is taking the piss out of simple people like Derek, and not attempting to portray them fairly.

But also to Gervsis' credit he's promoted someone deserving i.e Karl Pilkington .

I've been watching "The Trip" recently and the ad libbing from Coogan is just so clever. Gervais got lucky with the Office, I've never found his other stuff as good as it was hyped.

Agree with you about his Derek portrayal as I said. I feel his use of Karl was quite self serving and intentionally exploitative but the round headed buffoon had the last laugh, a point I am not sure Gervais gets.

The only parts of idiot abroad I dont like are when merchant and gervais are behind the desk like two smug overlords and insulting him ,its not that funny.
'Idiot' is a misnomer though, Pilkington is definitely a smart guy to get where he's got even if has meant demeaning himself to a fairly large degree.

Can't stand Gervais. His annoying laugh on that Karl Pilkington programme wrecked my head. Never liked Extras either.

Coogan is far superior. Some of the Alan Partridge stuff is sheer brilliant.

So far the polls are saying Steve Coogan is the more talented one. But that right there says alot about life as I am sure Gervais has the bigger bank balance.

I can't help much mention a pro wrestling reference here (Yeah I know, pro wrestling of all things) But to quote the words of a famous wrestler by the name of Al Snow, who was asked in an interview once about what was the best match of WrestleMania 3, he said who did the people pay to see? So what was the best match on the card? [In reference to the fact while the randy savage vs ricky steamboat was regarded as the best match on the card.... who sold the most tickets. Who put the asses in chairs. It was Hulk Hogan Vs Andre the Giant]

So I guess what is talent. It's all about money.

I really like Ricky Gervais, for The Office, Extras, the podcasts and his stand-up for the most part, but I only really like Coogan for the Partridge stuff.
That said, Coogan gets my vote because Partridge is that good.

Gervais has been living off the reputation of the office for ages and has been living off Karl pilkington for the last couple of years as well. Really overrated person in my opinion.
