Do you guys think that PCI-e SDDs will rock out aging SATA drives?
Think about it - connected directly to NB and RAM, easier on cable management and could fill those extra empty PCIe slots sitting there useless.

Considering even mid sized samsung 840 evo's are pretty much maxing sata 600 bandwidth then they will have to if they want higher speeds.

We need sata 900 or 1200 already.

Come to think of it, a price per GB for SSD is bigger issue than speed itself, majority of users aren't capable of saturating 600 fully atm.
I'd say video recording/editing and some simulators would benefit from snappier drives, but that's about it.

Being able to plug an SSD into RAM slot would be a fun technology to play around with.

There's also the argument of "What's the point?" Most people don't use the sequential speeds of existing SSDs, and really, is anyone going to notice the difference between 500MB/s and 800MB/s? I'm all for innovation and moving forward, I just don't see the average consumer making use of this at all.

Most average users don't even make use of SSDs, and probably wouldn't even know if they had one or not.

This, I have to disagree with. I've installed SSDs in my family's desktop, as well as my dad's laptop. On both machines, every member of my family was able to tell an immediate difference. Maybe they wouldn't know why their computer was so fast if they weren't told, but they definitely would notice a difference.

Agreed. My father booted up his new PC with an SSD for the first time and was like: "Hmmm, worth every penny."

Expensive and fast toys are targeted towards enthusiast and professional field not average users. You won't see an average dude buying TITAN to play facebook games or 10k RPM disk to store movies.... well you get the point.

There will always be someone paying to have the best and fastest whether or not its actually needed.

The actual problem with people I personally noticed is lack of knowledge or experience. People has mentioned their laptops booting up 5-10 minutes for example, so I offer them to get an SSD before considering spending tons of cash on a shiny new laptop, because that SSD can be also reused later when upgrading the system, right? The response usually is negative.. because "cmon hard drive is for storage only, how does it help you surfing faster?". Silly humans.

That's when you feed them the line of:

"You know how Macs are always really fast? They have SSDs, and that's the only difference."

They'll agree pretty quickly to an SSD after that. It's really unfortunate (because they've done a lot of completely asinine shít as well) but because of all the marketing Apple has done, it makes certain points easy to get across to the average idiot.

Eh, most Macs don't actually. Mainly because Apple's pricing on SSDs is shameful extortion. :P

Agreed (RE pricing), but I thought most of their notebooks came with SSDs as standard? If not, well, yuck.

The MacBook Air does. The MacBook Pros don't (at least the normal ones).

Was looking at the prodigy M MAtx case there looks really interesting. Could anyone point me in the direction of an intel micro atx board that has 2x PCI-E x16 slots? I only seem to be able to find AMD ones. Also, would I really fit 2 Asus 7950 DirectCU II TOP V2 in that case?

I thought the ASUS Rampage IV Gene did but sorry no.It has 16x slots but runs 8x with dual cards.

Either way though you really wont lose much performance with 8x imo.

There isn't one, unless you want to pay ridiculous money for one with a PLX chip, and even then, I don't know if there's an mATX board that uses one. PLXs are pretty much only multiplexers anyway, adding a little lag.

I'd sooner just go for an x8/x8 board if it were me.

It's just an idea I've had for a while. I doubt I'd even use 2 cards to be honest. I can't imagine needing more than 1 7950 on 1080p.

Why do you want 2 x16? For anything short of 3 x 1080p monitors 2 x8 is more than fine. Generally speaking.

Corsair Carbide Air 540 is absolutely quality. In love with it, temps dropped quite a bit. RAM hopefully tomorrow and gonna throw a H80 in the mix.

Looking to but a new flash drive, all the reviews point towards the Sandisk Extreme. Does capacity affect performance? The 32gb for about €35 looks good but am I missing out on more than storage by not buying the 64gb?
