Also - smokers will DESTROY any arguments about the adverse effects of smoking if it's not totally up to scratch - they will nerd up and go AT that sh1t like Arnie had a kid with Moss from the IT crowd. But they will ignore every single bit of research that actually proves there's a health risk to it as well.

WHAT is your problem? I am an ex-smoker. I gave it up 2 years ago mainly for financial reasons. I have no problem with smokers because they are not allowed to smoke in any place where it would annoy me. I don't feel the need to rant at smokers. If that's what they want to do, it's no skin off my nose. I suppose some people are just intolerant by nature and keep feeling the need to rant at something.

But then she comes home and to fcuk with us, her own family. My mother gave up smoking and I get headaches and if you ask her to go out she wont.

I wanted to watch some tv before, she was in the sitting room smoking and I asked her to stop or go outside and I was told "i was here first". Ok, so this is how it goes. I was in the sitting room another time and did it matter that I was in there first, did it fcuk?

The lot of them are selfish.

This is bullshit and only other smokers say it. They don't care for people around them as long as they get to smoke.

I was waiting for the bus a few weeks back and it was raining and I was standing at one end of the bus shelter some girl and her friend were right beside me, it was only the 3 of us there, she proceeded to light up and while taking to her friend had her cigarette aimed right at my face so I stank of smoke by the end of it. No consideration for anyone around her, she could've moved up to the other end and it would've been fine because she wouldn't have been blowing smoke my direction, but nope, was completely oblivious and inconsiderate to the people around her.

Just because you can't smoke indoors anymore doesn't give you the right to be inconsiderate and obnoxious about where you blow your smoke outdoors. Seriously, just because it's outdoors doesn't mean you can be a dickhead about it. I wouldn't have a problem if you tried to keep the smoke away from me, because some people have been really good about that, but the majority couldn't give a fuck because once it's outdoors they don't give a flying fuck about anyone around them as long as they can smoke.

As I said, if it only did you harm I wouldn't care at all, but it doesn't, your second hand smoke does me harm too. So if I'm paying for your nasty habit I'd want you to be more considerate. I'm not being a 'fuss arse', but I've met a heap of obnoxious smokers that couldn't give a fuck and had a similar attitude of everyone who has a problem with it are only whiny cunts. Nonsense argument. drinking and smoking were both accepted until recently. Drinking and smoking often go together but they are not the same. There is no, or at least tenuously little reason or justification for smoking. You can choose to drink or not in the company of others, you can't choose to not breathe smoke filled air, the only way being leaving the company of smokers. So therefore it is by definition a relatively antisocial habit.

As an ex-smoker, I can see both sides of the argument. The trouble is that people on both sides tend to use the most outlandish claims and there is very little rational or reasonable comment at all. The dangers of smoking tend to be greatly minimised by smokers and the dangers from second hand smoke are wildly exaggerated by non-smokers.
There are many things in the environment which expose us to some level of danger. Even a glass of ordinary tap water contains many toxic substances, (e.g. arsenic, clorine). There is a saying in the medical world that "the dosage is the poison".
So let the smokers smoke in the places where it is legal and safe and let the non-smokers just accept that. We will all get on fine.

Im an avid anti smoker but smokers are entitled to smoke in legal areas but the point being made here is that the majority of smokers dont abid by the rules. Even when outside it cant be that difficult to turn the opposite way to a non smoker its only manners we're asking for.

Okay okay let's just ignore the the 130,000 people who die each year from lung cancer in the US alone as a direct result of smoking. That's 85 percent of total lung cancer deaths....oh and the 600,000 who die from second hand smoke every year too.

52 people in Ireland will die from lung cancer this year as a result of second hand smoke, hundreds more will be affected.

And unfortunately no, the "dosage is not the poison" in this case, as there no safe level of exposure to second hand smoke. So putting down the car windows or opening the back door inside won't make any difference.

I'm finished with this thread, the level of ignorance is ridiculous. It's actually extremely offensive to those who have lost love ones as a direct result of smoking. It's shocking too that anyone would make the - "well alcohol is bad too, and that's commonly accepted." argument. Yes, we know, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. I mean we're all adults here, what kind of logic is that?

What you suggest is that if a person is walking down say grafton street where a person is allowed to smoke freely, they should stop and ask the 5000 people that are walking there too?
