But, given his tactical knowledge and most importnatly his player first approach he might actuallly be a godsend, because I dunno would some of these players respond to a zero tolerance hardline another manager might come in and attempt to implement.

Dont get me wrong I really admire the guy and you cant but be impressed with his indepth detail on the Sunday Game but it reminds a bit of Davy Fitz when we gave him his first taste of intercounty management except Davy had club and college experience behind him I dont know what credentials Og Cusack has at this stage. If he was to take it your talking about a couple of years at least for him to learn his trade as a manager aswell as anything else. God knows we were guniea pigs for davy fitz for long enough is it really what we need again

Mountainlad wrote: » Well, I guess there are those that tell you he was running Cork at the end of it, or all good things about them (hard to know what to believe there). I think he's smarter than Fitz, would give everything he has to the cause. Tactically I think he's astute and knows the game very well. Still not convinced that Fitzgerald knows what's best for his team out in Clare. But yeah it would definite;y be a gamble. On the flip side, I don't see any appointment not being a gamble. Donal O'Grady would never take it, no money going and he is pretty shrewd when it comes to finding a job that will make him look good. Don't blame him on that score either.
Sam Swarek wrote: » Grady has a retired principals pension, he works for tv3 and tg4, id say his bank account is healthy, why would he take on the aggro of the Waterford job and forfeit his tidy side gigs? It'll never happen. Only reason he took limerick for the year was because jp handed him a blank cheque!

We would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to Michael Ryan - Team Manager, his selectors, panel of players and back room staff. Michael has given a lifetime of service to the GAA and has given 100% dedication and commitment during his term as Waterford Senior Hurling Manager. His knowledge and level of input cannot be questioned. The Executive would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge this. In looking forward to the 2014 season, we will be seeking nominations, as is the norm for a new management team. The position of Manager will be open to all interested parties. Should the outgoing Manager wish to put his name forward, it will be considered equally with all others who may express an interest. There will be no further comment from the Executive on this matter. END OF STATEMENT.-- Emer BarryPRO, CLG Port Lairge Pathetic statement apart from thanking Ryan for his services. They seem to be adopting the 'bury the head in the sand' approach which is unfortunate for all concerned. Now more than ever it will be interesting to see what Ryan has to say on Saturday night.

Especially when you look at the clubs alot of the current minor team are playing on, I'd fear some of them tailing off playing at junior and intermediate clubs and this type of setup would be invaluable to potentialy keeping some of them at a competitive level through the exposure they'd get. Are our county board cute enough to try something like that though? Are they ****!

The composition of the sub-committee then was county chair, secretary and treasurer and it isn’t believed likely that any former players will be involved in the process this time either.

He gave so much to the betterment of waterford hurling these past 2 years and during that time I really felt energised we were back heading in the right direction for ultimate honours. 12 players on that panel shared my view, that's 40% didn't want him to go. You would normally find fringe players on any panel would not be happy with management as they are not getting enough game time. That means of the starting team there proberly was a majority that wanted him to stay. Many of those hurlers played their best hurling under Ryan. This was Nagel's best year in a waterford shirt, Brick had returned to his best, Moran won his first all star last year and gave an exhibition against kilkenny, Lawler and darragh fives played their best games ever against kilkenny, dillion showed great work ethic all year and chipped in with some good scores in the championship in his debut season. The list goes on further. From what I've gathered the reason they wanted him out is some didn't like his west waterford accent and that he delegated too much responsibility. He is the manager, not the coach, they are seperate roles with seperate responsibilities. One trains the team in training sessions and the other glues the whole thing together between selectors, players, media, county board, team talks, etc. He sourounded himself with hurling men and did what was asked of him. The performances were there. In the last 5 years other counties like limerick, clare, cork dublin and galway have come out of periods of unrest and panels that were way behind in the modern game. It was easy for waterford to be number 3 during this time. Any time we played kilkenny during this time it never at once looked like we would beat them. They often played us in 3rd gear and won by 7 points or more. This year was the first time since 98 before cody came in, that it looked like we could beat kilkenny. I really felt we were finally heading in the right direction. Now these 18 cowards have destroyed all that. They have put themselves under huge pressure for the next 3 years to get results. If they fail, this mess they have put us in will be thrown back at them. We had a good thing going here, excellent fitness trainers, a good defence coach in Cullinane who was our best full back of all time, a good trainer in Cunningham from limerick and a decent man with no ego to glue it all together. I dont think i can ever forgive those 18 backstabbing cowards for what they've done if they have ended up destroying the improvements we were making under this present management.
