I really smell a rat in this story ,skully was all for coming back and now hes not, the CB must have ****ed up mightily to lose him ,either that or they are pulling an almighty stroke in getting jason ryan or cody to come in.

I honestly believe that he could have done some great things and jumped before he was shoved

Good win for the minors today, despite making pretty hard work of it. Am I alone in being concerned at how our teams at many grades seem to have real problems gaining possession though? It sure was nice to see the ground stroke employed by a Waterford team and the ball kept moving though.

Surprised to hear about Michael Ryan stepping down, the managerial merry-go-round begins again..

Would have been of the same opinion before he was appointed in Limerick, but after his stint there, I am not sure he is not a one trick pony with the short passing game. This is probably a harsh assessment, but in my opinion, the jury would be out on him right now.

I dont think somebody like OGrady would do, he would be more of a short term plan. We need a young progressive manager and to give them plenty of time like Dalo at Dublin. Rome wont be built in a day

Commiserations in losing a good manager like Mick but perhaps he feels his job was to come in and stabilise the setup and that the likes of Ken Mcgrath or Peter Queally could be the men to bring Waterford hurling forward. They've a few handy young fellas in the pipeline. The Currans look handy as does young Bennett.

AFAIRC he was in the running last time only he stayed on with Wexford. From De la Salle which is a big hurling club in the city of Waterford. Many would think a Waterford man younger then alot of the intercounty players couldnt have brought a professional setup to a football county but he did it with Wexford and his absence this year has been noted. I do think the job will probably go to Queally or Ken though

I have as much respect for ken as anyone but does he have the pedigree to run a team?

The County board are broke so I would be surprised at a big name getting the job. Inside County appointment a cheaper option I would imagine. Possible candidates ?? - Ken McGrath, Derek McGrath, Peter Queally, Sean Prendergast, Kevin Ryan, Paul Flynn. Any more folks....might be worth setting up a poll

Ken McGrath and Peter Queally were both great servants to the shirt but neither are remotely qualified enough nor experienced for the job and should not even be considered in my view. Don't think Derek McGrath has the experience either at this stage.

This next appointment is huge and the wrong decision could undo a lot of good work. I'm disappointed that we are in this position as I thought we were in good shape and progressing under Ryan.

Don't ascribe to the thinking that we need a Waterford man - we need the best man available. People like Sheehy and O'Grady should definitely be approached. I think Jason Ryan will be interested and allegedly so is Donal Og. Having someone with an AI medal in the dressing room either as a player or manager would be a huge boost.

Wow what a day that was.

Id like to say thanks to michael ryan for giving up 2 years of his life for the good of waterford He met with a lot of adversity in his time but aways acted with great dignity and never complained always seeing things as a challenge rather than an obstacle. Passionate about his county and the game and u cant ask for much more than that. Got a radw deal from day one compare to what his predecessor got.

A true gentleman and I wish him all the best

Delighted for the minor's on reaching the final. There will be a 4 week break for the final so I hope the remaining games in the minor club league championship will be played in the next 2 and a half weeks to keep them sharp. I feel that whoever we play in the final will have the beating of this team if they take on our defence and run at them. Like the limerick games far too many silly fouls were committed when their forwards ran at us. This is an area which needs to be worked on as 10 points from frees is too many in 60 mins of hurling. Also I thought it was very noticable under the puckouts, 2 waterford players tended to go up for a ball and the kilkenny player would knock the ball down for the other waiting kilkenny player. These are two weaknesses in the team that will have to be looked at if they are to have a chance the next day. I was very happy with the hooking, blocking and chasing of kilkenny players putting them under pressure. Also encouraging they didn't freeze on the day but some of the team have more in them.Bitterly disappointed Michael Ryan has now decided not to go forward for 2014 especially up until today he had given every indication he wanted to stay in charge. We were making real progress under that management team. We were short 2 scoring forwards to be the real deal but given how many players have retired in the last few years and how well the younger players were responding to the setup I felt we were going in the right direction. This is a set back no matter what way you look at it.As far as finding a replacement I hope it is a waterford man who knows what players are coming through in the county that deserve to be on the panel. Also with the finances we cant be making the budget deficit's in the county bigger by splashing out on a recognised inter county manager outside of waterford. The only person I rate in waterford is Jimmey Meaney or Ken McGrath. But as Ken has only retired a few years from playing and has work commitments i dont think he would be interested. No matter who will be appointed it will be a step backwards as the current management team had developed a soild team from 1-9, introduced younger players that had played well for their age and developed a system of distributing faster and better ball to the forwards. This is a real shame and an own goal for our county board.

yes we need the best person available , but you cant replace the passion of having a homegrown hero,therefore the best person available has to be a waterford sort.

I am so dissapointed that ryans nto back, but we need to keep it inhouse, we are really going to do it ,in the nxt 5 years, as long as the passion is there

Maybe not but if we pick someone like Ken just because he's a Waterford man we risk setting the county back and damaging Ken's reputation in the process. I sincerely hope he does not go for it at this stage.

If possible we need someone with experience coming in as this group of players is not far off the top sides.

Dont agree about our minor defence lad I thought our full back line was outstanding today. I think our ill discipline stems from a weak backroom team the lads on the sideline are pretty inept and its a huge shame considering the talent on the pitch. I think weve got this far inspite of management rather than because of them

In fairness I think we've all had a say on Davy at this stage and regardless of what we think the record books will show he had a pretty good spell in Waterford.

I would certainly be in favour of appointing a Waterford man to the job if a suitable man were available but I don't believe that is the case, bar the man who had just vacated it. Ken has close to zero coaching experience and Queally presided over an intermediate and u21 defeat this year, hardly a ringing endorsement with respect.

Well done to the minors, absolutely delighted they are in an AI final. Would be a huge boost to win it. Made hard work of it and gave away stupid frees throughout and maybe rode our luck at times but the main thing is to get the win and move on. Well done to all involved and already can't wait for the final and for at least a Waterford team to be part of AI day.

Fairly surprised to hear Ryan is stepping down, I had assumed he was on for next year. Don't know who we should go for tbh. Just don't think Ken, Quelly or Flynn have a huge amount of experience, I wouldn't mind seeing them as selectors but I think we'd need someone more experienced as a manager. Ok, I'm probably contradicting myself a little but I would give Derek Mac a shot, he at least has experience managing DLS seniors. Even a duo of Derek Mac and Jason Ryan would be interesting, doubt that would happen though. Interesting times ahead, crucial we make the right appointment. Looks like Mullane, rightly or wrongly could be back on board next year.

They got 10 points from frees in 60mins by running at us. It was similar to the limerick games. I thought the coner backs did well and the full back did well in the second half but it wasn't the full back line that was over fouling. The problem is when they run at the team from midfield and their half forwards that a pull back occurs or needless swipe at their hand when they go up for the ball. What do you suggest the backroom staff do?

I thought Michael wasn't doing a bad job considering all the players that Waterford were down this year but maybe this had something to do with this supposed falling out with John Mullane.It's awful sad that John Mullane played no part in this years hurling championship because it's been such on open championship and Kilkenny and Tipp could get their act together again.I know for a fact that Waterford supporters would fancy their chances against all four of this years semi finalists!It will be some battle to win munster next year.Oh and best of luck in the minor final.

Hopefully i will get tickets to the final but they will be like gold dust with Cork and Limerick or Clare being in the senoir final. Everythings going against me im not part of a gaa club and pn the day it will be hard to find spare tickets in time for the minor game.

Won't be an easy task. Best bet is to try and find people in Kilkenny or somewhere who would be entitled to tickets and buy them off em. See if you know anyone who knows someone.

Well done to waterford minors today they played well, two or three will def make the senior team in the net few years. They can be confident in the final and have a fifty fifty chance of winning.

As regards michael ryan He was an excellent manager, he wasnt appreciated in waterford. If they get in a former player thats an inexperienced manager that is a popular choice with players they will be back to square one. Waterford have potential but they would have been better off keeping the same manager who was making progress with them.

John Mullane chose not to play with Waterford as was his right. It is time to forget about him. No one player is more important than the team. That is the way it is in the really successful counties. That is the way it must be in Waterford if we are to win an All Ireland.
