Would you support the reintroduction of the death penalty?

I would but only in circumstances where it would be appropriate and if the sentence was carried out quickly (within 12 months). I think the death penalty for some crimes is necessary, eg, premeditated murder, serial rape, child abuse. Who agrees with me?

You said the cost of the death penalty = the price of a bullet. It clearly doesn't in any reasonable society.

There's no reason why an appeal for a death penalty should cost any more than a regular appeal that we have every day in Irish courts.
20 years in jail for one prisoner will cost taxpayers 2 million plus (not including health/dentistry or medical procedures).

Are you suggesting a regular appeal against imprisonment costs 2 million euros?

Also, the granting of an appeal should be at the sole disposition of the jury.
Not all cases should be granted an appeal.
The Woolwich head-hackers for example, would be a clear cut case that would not justify an appeal.

Yes i support it particularly in the circumstances of reoffenders. Too many don't give a **** whether they go to prison or not and first thing they do when out is start out trying to get back in.

For all those looking for revenge and to have state sponsored killing in Ireland, would you all be happy for us to leave the EU and rescind our obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights (which would undoubtedly mean a loss of many rights for us all) to have capital punishment? Because that's what it would take for us to reintroduce it. Oh and a referendum as well to overturn a 62/38 decision from the 2001 referendum. Well?

Nonsense. Amongst us? So according to that the only options for dealing with murderers are killing them or keeping them in the general population? Have you not heard of prisons? And what gives you the right to decide if someone deserves to die?

jon venables does not deserve to live. But even if you lock him up forever their will always be a chance that hes released from prison.

That's so cruel. I support the death penalty in certain circumstances. Some people are just not able to fit into society. They will almost certainly murder/rape/exploit if given normal freedom.

If their brain is built such that they will do those things again, then we, as a society, have choices regarding what to do with them. We could lock them away from society to rehabilitate them but we are really poor at actually doing that. We could just warehouse them together, out of normal society, which I think is both pointless and cruel. I would support the death penalty for people who just are not capable of living in society without ruining lives through murder or rape for example.

I wouldn't oppose. Longer life sentences seems a bit more favourable though.

oh who knows they're politics? And who is thinking of themselves? I wldnt even say this is an Irish issue, is say bring it back worldwide, I Cldnt grantee a Hugh drop in rapes,,molestation, murder etc if it was back, think bout that before u get all PC, if sumthing happened too ur famiy wld u not want revenge? Is say ur a kid with his head up his r her ass without one.

One miscarriage of justice is one miscarriage of justice too many.
Better one guilty person go free than 100 innocent persons be executed.
We should be a society that values human life and treats people with compassion even if they have committed heinous crimes.
As far as I am concerned a person who has committed cold blooded murder should never be released from prison.
Prisons should not be nice places and by all means there should be a strict spartan regime where life should be tough for the inmates.

Killing someone who is an evil monster dehumanizes society and diminishes us all collectively.

I therefore oppose the death penalty.

It's hard to understand this post to be honest because of all the text speak but:

It's never a good idea to let a victim choose punishments, they're hardly going to come up with a reasonable punishment. Better to let society as a whole determine punishments (as we do now).

I don't know whether you're saying you could or you couldn't guarantee a drop in crimes because of your wording. The statistics would indicate that such a drop would not occur.

I don't know what your last sentence is at all but if it's an attempted insult, you've done a pretty bad job of it.
