The Killing Season 3 [ Spoilers ]

Not as strong as last week's, but still pretty decent.

Good opening scene with Linden alone with the bodies in the middle of nowhere. Suitably Lund, imo. And she's back into the fray, carry some of the case alone. Her boss seems a bit better than previous ones (so far), though I didn't really recognise him even though we had already met him last week...oops.

Child porn stuff is unsettling. Brings forward some false suspects, standard approach. Rule out the perverts and weirdos, find the real guy. The exploitation of the street kids should be pretty unsettling, but I'm not sure it's fully there yet.

Holder's partner seems a touch cliche, but he was a bit better during the interrogation. I'm not sure Holder himself has much patience for surveillance work. Still, he'll get the job done - read the street, and the case. I did laugh a bit at his tie arrangement early on.

Patrol/uniformed cops should not be watching child porn DVDs...that should be left to specially trained officers.

Am guessing Seward doesn't really feel pain. Winding up the prison guard's another trope, I suppose. In spite of the complaints, I enjoyed it.

Something I don't understand is that when they knew these kids were selling themselves on the street it wasn't treated as much of a big deal. But the same kids being in porn and suddenly that's too far? I would have thought prostituting themselves was as bad if not worse.

I think its the murders rather than the porn that's a bit too far. The porn is being used to find the murderer. If the girls being killed weren't in the porn, then they would not be too bothered with it.

Question after seeing episode 4.

There are a few guys in these episodes and I assume purposely (by the makers) they don't show their faces well.

1. The suspect at the end of the show, who's also the mothers bloke and the video maker
2. The parole officer who took the urine test and probably lied about the result
3. The guy in the car from episode 3 who gave the young girl a burger for the "job"

Are these 3 different guys?

I would imagine that the kids selling themselves is very much a child protection issue, but perhaps it only arises when they are on the police's radar, they might escalate it to social worker of some description. When they police are not aware of it, they might let it slide on the basis that they figure it's street kids doing what they need to do to survive. Videos are probably seen somewhat differently as the transaction, as it were, isn't as two way, plus the whole distribution of illicit content angle. Or, I could be waffling.

If there's one thing this episode made clear it's that Linden knows how to make a point. A number of times. I had pretty much forgotten about Holder's partner - hardly recognising him when he was watching the interrogation. Good scene later where Linden was talking to Holder, and then completely ignoring his 23 years on the job partner until she basically told him to feck off.

Some waffle from the attractive DA, and the Mayor and Chief are breathing down the Lt's neck, no, really? Who is Seward's prison buddy supposed to be - a Seattle Bubbles? Don't find him annoying, mind.

The authenticity of the street kids probably seemed a bit more real on paper than is coming across on screen. Didn't quite buy that the prison guard's wife would suddenly open up to a stranger, but you never know. She's probably glad of a change, too.

I'm grumbling, but am still on board.

Bonus point for casting Nicholas Lea. So, the cat lady motel owner is kin to the current suspect (Joe), eh? Still, the investigation progresses. Bio hazard bags be ominous, yo.

What's Seward's game? 2 weeks until his execution, which is pretty close to the timeline of the case - each episode is a day, iirc.

I hope Bullet doesn't become too much of a tag along. Nice work by Holder blending in. Pretty easy given his background and street experience.

Bit daft for the Lieutenant's family to be hanging out in the investigation room. Anyway...

Linden was pretty short with the mother of the missing girl. Now, then. He's right behind you.

Much more engaging episode this week. Was starting to worry that this season wasn't even close to matching up to season 1, but it's definitely improved.

Still not sure where Seward's storyline is going, though. He clearly has feelings for his son, but something's holding him back from connecting with him.

Nice cliffhanger at the end too.

Picking right up from last week's cliffhanger. Linden pushing people for answers and pissing them off, too. Holder seemed to be largely comic relief here (scarily insightful at the end?), but I'm down with his philosophising about Galileo!

A couple of mirroring scenes going on - Linden's personal life, Seward trying to keep his kid happy (the stars) unlike his own prick of a dad, Linden exiting the prison, the wall of photos at the end. It's not the priest, anyway. Any consequences for Chief from BSG not being at his post when Seward's cell block mate took his life? Pretty nice shot of the city's landscape when Bullet was talking to Callie's mother.

Yeah, there's something off about that Becker guy alright. When his colleague went back to his house that time, Becker's wife mentioned something about long hours and double shifts and yer man looked confused. He's clearly lying to his wife about where he is at certain times.

Good question. I guess revealing her fate now might lead to a body and forensics that would push the investigation forward. And then they'd have to set up another missing girl or something to carry into the final few episodes. Doesn't sound likely. They've already invested a bit in her relationship with her mother, etc, so I'd guess her fate will be dangled for a bit longer. Presumably we won't learn about the show's future until it wraps this case.

I don't know if I have rose tinted glasses of the 1st and 2nd series, but this series seems slower. The cliff hangers aren't as OMG as before. Most of the scenes are quite subtle and the writers are giving very little away each episode.

Mid season dip here, methinks. Holder does well with blending in on the street as usual, but he was somewhat of an idiot for the rest of the episode. A pity. Saying that, the best scene was probably between him and Linden in the car. I think Seward's a pretty interesting guy. Not because he tries to push people's buttons, but I'm afraid the character feels a little boxed in (sorry), which I attribute to the script. It's clearly not the pastor bloke...particularly when you have another character (Bullet) spell it out so clearly - hello, viewers, are you listening? Meh.

And the third series is better for it. The investigation seems slower but is more natural feeling with Linden etc doing stuff that you would kind of expect them to. Less of a rollercoaster ride but a lot less frustrating to watch week to week.

I do love the natural feel of the show. I don't know of any other show that comes close to it. Slow could also mean that I just want more of it so more happens. I'd love to have a few episodes built up to watch one after another but I can't stop myself watching each episode on Monday evening.

Linden could do better, whats up with the tender moment with the boss! Plus all the blinds open in the office. No way would that happen.

Great cliffhanger this week. Wasn't expecting that. Wonder how the writers will explain the blood on the rear seat as the killer can't be Pastor Mike.

Bit of a time out episode, in some respects. This year's version of Linden's stint in the psych hospital. Flesh out the priest a bit more, ground Linden, then cross a line through padre's name. At least the police caught on pretty quickly re the radio, and overall, I'd say it kept things moving. Of course the answers lie with the street kids (who are OK, but not much else), and the Seward case. I had pretty much forgotten about his existence, tbh. Nice to see Linden smile now and then, and not often Holder calls her Sarah. We know she can be a bit emotional, but generally not in front of other cops.

I noticed Netflix are an episode behind. What day of the week do they release the latest episode?

Though episode 8 was good.

A bit of a filler episode for sure. Enjoyable though.

Compared to season 1 the amount of suspects is smaller now and also their characters are less built. There are the two prison guards, the mothers boyfriend, the dodgy parole officer, twitch and Holders partner. Of those I don't think its the baldy guard with the wife in crisis. I reckon he's either having an affair with a man or found God. Something completely unrelated to the killing. The dodgy parole officer has hardly been in it so it shouldn't be him. The boyfriend seems too obvious. Holders partner, can't be. So its either the guard with the new baby (allegedly) or Twitch. And Twitch seems far fetched. Who else is in it?

BTW, if you like The Killing, I'm just after watching Broadchurch for the weekend and it was excellent. Very similar in murder mystery whodunit but seemed a bit more fast paced. Maybe because I watched all 8 episodes over 4 nights. Highly recommended.

In the main, I liked it, but a few mixed feelings, too. It seemed like they were scrambling a little to bring loose threads together, but I guess you can let that pass. Felt sorry for Callie's mother here - the episode was pretty slanted that way. Should have figured something was up once Holder was being a bit arsey, clear signpost. Ergo, the death of Bullet. A pity, and Holder took it pretty hard, but tbh, the kids aren't too well woven into the story, imo. I presume now some fate may befall Twitch, Titch, Tweet, or whatever his name is, and his girlfriend given that they've invested in showing their new place. Nic Lea makes for an interesting cellblock mate - quasi psychologist/spiritual counsellor and generally manipulative. The bald prison guard has been made out to be an uber tool from the start - he lets his buttons get pressed too easily.

Was joe set up? Did he do it? I Amnt convinced.

They made a point of saying the early arrest due to good police work. But holders partner (the old dude) cuts all the corners!

I recall the scene with the social worker, but right now I don't remember what he looks like or even if he was in more recent episodes. Did he pop up again? Joe is probably a red herring.

I think Seward's a pretty interesting character, but let's be honest, the notion of a stay of execution was never a runner, and that aspect never drew me in dramatically (when it was planted as an idea originally). That said, this episode saw his manipulative skills in operation as per usual, along with his more human side. Plus, it put him in a front of Linden and so sparks naturally flew. The two actors sell it, obviously. Anyway, the risk there, imo, is overplaying your hand with that sort of stuff. I think they possibly drifted into it a little when Linden freaked out and lost it. Understandable in one way - and if it was to set up that good scene between her and Holder just afterwards, then fine. I think the son was somewhat underdeveloped as a character, really, and maybe the scene later with him outside whilst Seward was being led to his death was a touch Hollywood, but I can sort see Linden doing that as a two fingers to the system. And the common thread that probably binds Linden, Seward and his son (and perhaps also Holder) is loneliness. Good scene with Holder and the hair gel, though, and glad he saw sense with the beer, of course.

I thought the execution scene was well done (the distorted focus, etc). Hard ass prick of a guard (what is with that guy, seriously, or well, who cares?) flinches so Chief from BSG can take over.

Just next week to go.

Right this is my view on it. So don't read if u want to be spoiled.

I think that it is defo the social worker. He would have had access to sewards child.

I think he probably had to do supervised visits with Seward and that's when Seward would bring the child out to the country to build treehouses. Remember the picture he always drew? Well that is significant to the murders. And I think that's where the tree house was.

just watched the lastest 4 episodes, pretty good stuff, the show definitely has a better impact when its watched in blocks, the earlier part of the season kinda dragged a little to much, i dont mind the slowness but it was a little to slow, but the last 3 episodes have been great, the rev taking linden hostage, bullets death and now sewards, id wonder even if a call comes in while hes dying and he gets cut down (really hope it doesnt though, to cliche), but it will lead to the actual killer

i wonder what they plan on doing for the last 2 episodes, will they find callies killer or is she even dead,

Quality, you may be onto something there. Makes more sense than anyone else. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise whoever it is and there are no plot holes.

TBH, I've been a little disappointed with this series. Series1+2 had much more going on and I remember so looking forward to finding out who the killer was. With series 3 I'm not near as excited. Maybe I expected too much. Still love the show mind and hope they continue to make another series.

So, who is the social worker? Is he the guy who was checking Twitch's urine samples were clean, and then seemed to abuse him in his car in one of the earlier episodes? Or, is it someone else who was only linked to the Seward case?

I've somewhat mixed feelings at this stage. I think it started pretty well, but the last few episodes, though generally decent, have fizzled out a little, imo. I had to remind myself via wiki what happened to the pastor a few episodes back.

They all fear him, because they dont want to end up back in care. Remember bullet was told who the person was? Just wondering how joe mills is tied into it all.

OK, thanks. When did we last see him? It's not the priest, probably not Joe Mills - who else was on the police's radar, apart from the social worker/probation officer? Who made the porn with the underage kids?
