Yeah you can never have enough players but it's a lot of money to replace someone that probably doesn't need replacing.

Then you've the whole Jose Reyes, Diego Forlan, Juan Veron risk.

You've seen him 6 times and that's convinced you of his worth? I'm guessing the scouts have seen him probably hundreds of times. I'm going to go with them on this one. Wenger had a value for Higuain, Madrid wanted considerably more. That's the long and short of it.

Personally, I think Suarez is the better player, hence the higher price tag. Plus the whole rival club thing is bound to add a little more.

I don't need to be at the highest level in football to not look at Suarez as a striker.

Very interesting point in the guardian yesterday which basically said Higuain could only play in the CF position which means benching him or Giroud always whereas Suarez could play instead of him or with him. That's quite a difference and who knows what other ones there are?

Either would be the first name on the team-sheet. If it was Higuain it's simple, he's the one up top, if it's Suarez then where does he fit in? I still don't think it's much better with Suarez :pac:

In reality though there's s lot about Higuain we don't know because despite what we like to think we're a fairly ignorant bunch when it comes to the nuances of particular players.

His numbers and seeing him half a dozen times on telly is enough for me tbh.

They're not the same player. That's where the logic is.

did they sign him? no, so they didn't want him that much after all then did they

they wanted him at, probably the amounts that were mentioned in the press, low to mid 20's

they weren't prepared to go another 10mil on him, something they're happy to do with suarez

the money was there for higuain to be bought as seen by the last bid for suarez

if they really wanted him they would've signed him - simple

Well, we did want Higuain and we even agreed terms with him. It seems pretty likely that we'll end up with the nightmare scenario of neither.

higuain was sold for €40mil = £34.5mil, they mustn't have wanted to do that

they want suarez and didn't want higuain, that's perfect logic. why should they buy what they don't want?

I think we have about a week until Real give up on Bale and move for Suarez. We need to bid at least £45m + add-ons or just duck out while the only other remaining top class strikers, Soldado and Martinez, haven't yet moved to Spurs and Napoli respectively. We will be an absolute laughingstock if Real buy Suarez with the majority of the Higuain money. Should've just paid for Higuain and moved onto strengthening the other areas weeks ago.

I like the way we've decided to start telling journalists that we're going to put in another offer and exactly how much it's for before actually bidding.

Hmmmm, wait a minute.

If the lads are begging for to have the squad strengthened then they probably know it already.
I don't think any of them are "****" either which is very unfair to suggest. All are good players but we need the special ingredients that we are being denied.

I think once it gets close to £50m, they'll accept. Nobody in their right mind would show up, ask how much they want, and write a cheque for that amount. Not how it works in reality. You start low and work up until both sides come to an agreement.

If nobody else comes in, I think Rodgers will be willing to take £45m as he needs time to reinvest it. No point in him waiting until the last day to accept a £50m+ offer if he cant spend it.

yeah they have, they know as well as everybody there's money there and know that the better the squad/players the better you're likely to do

In the hope that Liverpool decide that they are better of with re-investing the money we are offering into their squad rather than holding onto a liability.

We all know that if a serious offer is made from a European club it is likely to be snapped up by Liverpool. Our only chance of acquiring him is if/when Liverpool decide he is too disruptive and/or that 40 million plus is too much money to have wasting on the sidelines. So we are not really in competition with anyone else for him and of course it is a serious bid.

That is not my point at all.

I found the following statement from Wenger very interesting, particularly the bit in bold -

We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us, but we are prepared to wait. It looks unlikely before the Emirates Cup. We still have a strong squad but we are there on the market to try to strengthen our team. With or without additions we can be title challengers next season.
