Yesterday I was a good citizen and helped a guy push his car off the road. Very much a sheep mentality. 1 guys was helping, then I was, then 2 others. Any more and all the parked up cars would of caused a traffic jam.

Quite embarrassed this morning.
Failed NCT this week on a corroded brake line.

Spent probably 2 hours in total scraping, sanding and treating the line and sent it back in this morning for its retest. Didn't think it was actually corroded and did not like the idea of having to drop the exhaust to replace it.

The same chap did the retest and called me over, said "did you not replace the lines". I said " they don't look corroded, it's just surface rust".

He told me to come out into the centre under the ramp and he showed me. Low and behold one of the lines entering the hose, entering the caliper was indeed corroded.

I was working on the parking brake line for two hours...
The shame.

That was a walk in the park compared to the last two days.
Replacing the original rear shocks and springs, 13 years of corrosion welded them to the wheel carrier.

Hours upon hours upon hours of being sprayed with shock fluid, dirt, oil, blood, sweat, blow torch heat, burning rubber - you name it. But they're in!

So its it a rigid line (which the brake hose comes out of) or the rubber brake hose (which has a metal sheath) that needs to be changed?

Yup, one of the rigid lines. Pretty much the whole area where it traverses the wheel arch area needs replacing.

Think I might have gotten done by a Garda van going through Ballyforan, it really sucked after crossing the river suck.
Before anyone ask's it was not a Gosafe van.

Throw up a photo just so I can get an understanding of that an NCT like test considers a fail. I havent seem much rust on that area before.

Will do, it looked pretty ragged up on the ramp. Will be next week.
How would you go about a repair, is all brake pipe the same between manufacturers?

It is basically yes, I replace the same type of pipe (but carried PS fluid) on the E31. I ordered the piping from BMW as it had the fittings on it, but its just delivered on a roll, you have to bend it to shape along the length of the car.

Ive seen my mechanic fitting universal piping and if doing it again, would have someone like that do it and not bother doing it myself. Mechanic will have all the piping flaring, cutting and fittings tools too.

I have years of electrical experience. In fact, I'm an Electrician by trade. I've wired the power stations that power your homes, the factories that have manufactured your laptops/car parts/medicines etc, the commercial outlets that you do business in and perhaps you even work in, CCTV, security and the public lighting systems that keep you safe and have done plenty of electrical work on many cars.

And then there was today. Today I discovered that for the life of me, I CAN'T install the most simple, basic fcuking car alarm known to man!!! :mad: 3 hours of messing around with all sorts of shít and I just gave up in case I burst into tears and curled up in a ball on the driveway. The vans wiring has been fcuked around with so much by the previous owners that I just didn't know where to start. I've never seen anything like it!

Fcuk this, a kill switch will do.

I'll probably tackle it again tomorrow when I'm not wrecked tired, have more patience and hopefully won't rain this time. Up since 5am and had a looong day before I even started on the alarm.
