What Projects are you working on or planning?

I would love to see what project people are working on or planning for the near future! Whether its new pick-ups in guitars or making a new bass!

Over the weekend i was doing some work on an old Harley Benton bass throwing in a new pick-up mainly to see if i could actually wire something successfully and i found out i could! ( ill through pics up tomorrow)! This inspired me and the next morning i woke up and decided i was going to build a one stringed guitar! then last minute i made it 2-stringed! The bad part about it all was that i rushed it because i had to be back in Dublin that day,but it could have turned out worst. If if i get more time off ill probably make one with more detail and love and stuff...

Last night i wired the pick-ups to it and got some sound which made me happy

but if i have have time later ill change around the pick ups!

All i had was scrap timber, a drill, a sander, a hand plane, and spare parts from an old crappy Encore guitar! Anyway here are some pics of the diddley bow!

Has anyone experience painting guitars?

I was looking into metal flake paint jobs and i was just wondering does anyone know of the different methods of applying it?

I've never tried it. If you practise any method on scrap though, you'll get pretty good pretty quickly. Youtube is always your friend!

Strip it down, mask off the cavity and neck socket and bring it to a panel beater?

I've seen that method and another of mixing with the lacquer and then spraying, but im a bit nervous. I have a few designs that i want to try but im wary about it and i'd rather do it myself than get a panel beater, i love doing crap like this.

i think the only way to do it is to practice on scrap timber and figure out for my self. Though i need to create a dust free zone to do it in

and i think that will be the hardest part.

Remember, any pain job, whether its a guitar or a kitchen wall, is all about preparing the surface. I'd check out prep and grain filling first. Also, there's nothing you can do with paint that can't be undone. If it goes on, it'll come off again.

Not sure if this is the best place for this but since some reading this make their own pedals it very well might be so here it goes.

Has anybody ordered from Mammoth electronics before?

I'm just curious because the components are very reasonably priced -
15 x pots,
20 x random diodes,
20 x BJT's,
20 x FETS,
6 x 1/4 Jack sockets,
5 x battery clips,
2 x 3PDT foot switches,
1 x die cast enclosure,

All for ~ €30, but shipping adds up to be pretty much the same again as it's coming from the states, also they also said it could take 2 months and tracking isn't an option on the more affordable shipping options.

If anybody has experience with these guys good/bad could you please let me know before I bite the bullet.
Also, if you guys have a decent spot for picking up components for a decent price that'd be great, the usual places I check out would be Radionics, Farnell and Amazon for bits and pieces but they are nowhere near as cheap as Mammoth, I'm just worried about the shipping.

I use bitsbox.co.uk, small english crowd near birmingham. Decent prices for smaller or hobbyist work.
