Who do you say 'Oh F***' to when they appear on TV?

Pretty simple question - is there anyone that vexes or annoys you so much that you almost have a reflex action to say 'Oh f***', not that **** again. It usually magnifies when you least expect to see them and then bang, they suddenly appear. Anyway, you get my drift.

As for me, well, it'd have to be Mary Lou McDonald because I know as soon as I see the transvestite-looking manikin talk, it's going to be a tidal wave of the most cringe worthily abject nonsense, on a scale far greater than any other politician could only dream of being.

So who is it for you that evokes such a reaction?

He's only there a couple of years but he's in the top 10 highest paid in RTE.

Disgrace, especially considering he's on air for all of 45 mins one night per week.

Prior to the cuts, he was on 230,000 per year. Now he's on 150,000. I mean, what the actual ****?

Therein lies the problem with RTE. there isn't a pure, light entertainment chat show on either RTE 1 or 2. We shouldn't be comparing O'Connor and Tubridy. They should be different shows but they're not.

They both do a bit of fluff, then a bit of depression. And now it's summer you have that pain in the neck O'Callaghan with the same show. Bit of fluff, bit of depression.

So thays ALL 3 rte shows following the same format.

There should be a show that just does upbeat chat and a bit of music.

Donal Skehan and ALL the rest of these chefs, cookers and foodies made me sick. The amount of airtime given to these is astounding. Kitchen Hero is one of the worst of these food/chef programmes. He is indeed quite arrogant and annoying.

I agree. Brendan is much better host than Tubridy and his show generally is more interesting. The season just gone of Tubridy's show was the worst ever. Apart from Ruby Walsh and Donal Skehan, Miriam's show is not too bad either. It is clear that Brendan and Miriam are much better hosts than Tubridy.

When it comes to paying their top presenters, RTE are in a league of their own. Personally, I don't hate any of them (I like BOC, Tubridy's show can be poor and he silly as a presenter, Pat Kenny is good when he has the right material but his Frontline show was very poor in general, Miriam is generally professional and engaging) but do think they are all very much overpaid.

More of an effort should be put into shows like the Late Late. Instead, we get the same old people year in year out saying the same things. Any time we see Twink, Ruby Walsh, Louis Walsh, all these chefs and foodies or members of certain boybands on our screens, it is time to turn off the TV.

I'm surprised Twink is not doing some kind of a show on RTE now. Then again, I should be saying this and giving them ideas !!!!!

I'm a fairly calm person, who knows where the off button is. However the only man who would make me literally say "Oh F***" out loud before I can change the channel, even if I'm on my own in the room, would be Brendan O'Connor.
He manages to annoy me so much so much it makes my blood boil at times. He even does advertisements for Spar or something, wtf??!
His very existence has started me to detest all Cork people, which isn't really fair, I may need councilling to overcome this. I'll be sending the bill to Mr O'Connor, at least he can well afford it.

What the main problem with RTE is we get too much of the same thing. Too much politics, cookery programmes, house/garden makeovers, reality TV, talent competitions and so on.

I was looking at another thread here out of curiosity about 1980s TV and can remember enjoying so much more of what was on offer then. Part of the problem today of course is the emergence of other TV stations and media thus meaning all the channels get less of the good cake to share among them and have to then fill in with the uninventive stuff after that.

Also, what has TV ruined is the emergence of reality TV (which I guess was brought to fame in 2000 with Big Brother) which was either non-existent or a very minor part of our programmes in the 1980s and even 1990s.

Yeah, yeah! While almost all of these eejits prompt me to stab my remote, they can't help being irritating. They were born irritating or were trained to be irritating by others. Yiz would be better off directing your ire at the morons who put these eejits on screen. THEY decide that "whoever" would enhance the entertainment factor or add something unique to the show. THEIR judgement is warped and, together with their proteges, should be rounded up and used as organ donors. It may also be necessary to examine the cretins who promoted these morons into positions where they decide who goes on screen.

PS: ALL cookery show hosts, guests, competitors, cameramen, sound technicians, editors, set designers, art(?) directors, etc., etc., etc.
