Meta thread. Give me a few words to help introduce people to after hours

Hello all,

Following on from our feedback discussion (It's stickied on the front page if you haven't seen it) it has been pointed out that it might be beneficial for new posters to have a brief intro to the ethos (for want of a better word... smell perhaps?) of after hours.

The "like the pub" simile is one that we've kicked around for years and I don't think it quite fits so I've gone ahead and snipped that part from the charter for now.

So I'm hoping to crowd-source steal your words for the purposes of updating the charter slightly.

So, how best would you describe our strange little corner of the internet to an alien that had never come across boards.ie before?

this place is not for the faint hearted, well it can be but you have to suck it up instead of moaning about it, its just words afterall as long as the words fall inside the remit of the charter that is.

top of the list though should be you should probably lurk for a while and read only get a handle on the way things are, read threads that dont interest you, just look for things which say stuff....
