He was telling me they make over 600% from popcorn and also make a serious margain on the drinks

I use to work in a bar and the mark up from sprits is good

Curious as to know where there is other huge mark up's

I reckon clothes must have a huge mark up too though, the prices of some things are baffling, how they could be worth the asking price is beyond me.

A lot of products have cheap versions where the mark up isnt very high, yet a fancy version of the same thing might have a very high mark up. For other products its the other way around.

I know the general value of a lot of materials and have a rough idea of how much trouble it would be to make it into a certain shape so I find myself wondering how much a thing actually costs to make.

for example if you buy a cheap as chips lawnmower with a plastic frame the engine will cost a few pound to whoever is buying them and the rest of the material doesnt cost much. It might only cost 2x as much in material or less to make a proper lawnmower yet the company making it might be buying brand-name engines at a high price from some other crowd so therefore aren't making as much % markup as the crowd making the cheap mower

I presumed he meant the difference between the price the pharmacy shop owner buys them in for and the price they sell them on for.

not really, the difference between cost and markup is not much, price isn't determined by chemists. but yeah, drugs generally

I think its the middle man between the government and the manufacturer that determines the price.

I remember reading somewhere, I think it was Richard Branson's book, that the profits on cans and bottles of coke for the Coca Cola Co. were huge, But that they had to plough most of their revenue back into advertising to encourage people to keep drinking it.

I don't think you have to advertise Coca -Cola anymore though to be fair. Stuff just flies out where I work
