Why do you think I got rid of my silver 406? One thing after another was replaced, it still kept throwing up faults, the final straw was the power steering pump going in sh*te. Replaced with another 406 and I haven't looked back, its approaching 10k miles put up since feb, worlds apart from the hape

Do yourself a favour and get rid of that thing, its a money pit. Talking from experience, don't end up like I did

I have it just over 3 months. The list just goes on and on of things done with it I can't really see an end to it either. So ill get the coolant leak fixed and see about getting rid of it in the next while.

I know what you mean it's starting to wreck my head alright it's not a nice feeling breaking down either and the constant issues just put me in a nad mood. Im hoping to hear about my summer job next week. so if that goes well ill just get rid of it. Hopefully it's still worth 4k its 07 with 115k km on it and if I put abit with it id get a nice astra h van 1.7 07 ish as Its about the best car derived van I can think of at the moment.

Saw you mentioning you thought it was better than the focus the other day, thought then you were cheesed off with the Focus.

Still its a low mile focus with money put in it and advertise it as so with a higher price;)

Hopefully. Maybe it's just my focus and the rest are fairly reliable as my mechanic thinks there the best thing ever and he maintains 15 plus focus van. But even if they are good in general I couldn't buy another one not anytime soon anyway even the 1.8 i have no interest in them for the moment. And looking at all the vans available the astra h 1.7cdti is the best bet IMO. I'd prefer to get a car van astra if I do change rather than a van van astra than I had. But at this stage I'd take any of them even the 1.3.

At the end of the day I sold my astra as it was painfully slow on take off in first and second gear especially but all the 1.3cdti were like that. And the focus is way quicker no arguments there. But I'd take back a 1.3 happily at the moment as at least they are reliable.

I'm in a newer astra saloon at the moment, 5 speed 1.3. It's alright, works better on the motorway than plodding about town. If I was buying a commercial it would be the sporthatch shape though.

Does it have to be commercial?

Unfortunately it has to be a commerical alright there's a few reason I don't really want to go into. The sport hatch is the shape I'd like too alright. Very few vans sold in 1.7 though most were 1.3 6speed the same as the one I had. Althought hatch version would be a small bit lighter than the one I had. Fingers crossed it something small thats causing the coolant leak and ill have to take it from there. It's abit of a pain to sell it after putting so much money into it but then there's no right solution in this situation ill loose out either way selling it or keeping it.

It's a pity really as all I wanted out of it was 4 years and quite frankly I didn't care after that even if it was worthless at that stage as by then in my eyes the van would have paid for itself as I would have got 4 years use out of it.

Tougher than rubber, usually quite pricey but less to flex

Yeah, that's the bonus with polybushes.... you really don't need to change them again. Partly the reason they're much more expensive.

Also, for anyone that wouldn't get under a car without almost scaffolding supporting it... race track gearbox changes :pac:

Polybushes are almost indestructable tbh, just make sure and use the grease supplied with them or they will squeak like feck

And when installing them ensure the metal tube rotates in the polybush.. not the polybush itself in the fitting. People screw this up and assume the bush should "float" and rotate and tighten the fitting down so tight it snags the polybush material.

I ordered my own custom set from http://www.superflex.co.uk/ (who I recommend) and cut my own crush tubes with 3mm clearance either side its impossible to snag the poly material as the wishbone rotates. Get slightly oversized polybushes, freeze them (for about 3hrs), heat the joint then push them through. Do not use lube on the outside of the bushing, only the internal section where the crush tube goes.

Spotted this GTR being lifted by Police in London on Wednesday. Bizarre situation as the truck had the lifting straps around it ready to lift, but the passenger was still inside. Looked like the owner was frantically talking on the phone to someone, possibly an insurance issue.
