Heterosexual Pride Day

First off, I am in now way homophobic. I have wondered though what the reaction from the gay community would be if there was a heterosexual pride day where people marched on the streets and shouted their joy to be straight? If it ever happened, would those involved would be seen to be anti-gay. Again, I would like to stress that I am not homophobic. Would just like to hear opinions.

I'd have thought it was natural to be str8 proud, and not needy of a parade to highlight a discrimination. Ponder's if we've upset the applecart and made str8s insecure

Pride, as a term-word, was chosen to show that lesbians and gays were longer going to accept that they should be ashamed of what and who they were, that bashing a person for being queer was wrong. It was a conscious decision to stand up str8, proud and shout it from the mountains.

If straight people had a history of being attacked, abused, discriminated against all because of their orientation - then I could certainly understand the context and need for a heterosexual pride day. But I sincerely doubt that was on the OPs mind.

Acceptance doesn't mean conformity with the norm. Acceptance means acceptance for who people are, in all the variety and diversity that entails. You can't be accepted for who you are if you're hiding who you are.

Your sexuality isn't the entirety of your being, but it's a significant part. And more importantly, you don't encounter any discrimination because of that part of you. I personally don't care about someone else's sexual activities. That's their business. I don't think other people should care about mine.

I wouldn't attend a public Heterosexual Pride Day for the same reason I wouldn't attend a public Homosexual Pride Day for the same reason I wouldn't discuss my particular brand of turn-ons or fetishes at work.

To be honest, I just don't see anything to be proud of about having sexual desires (or even not having them). It's like being proud of eating pizza.

You like pizza? Great! But really, is that something to be proud of? I prefer sleeping on my side more than on my back - should I take pride in that? I like Coke more than Pepsi....but again I don't have any sense of pride.

It's a preference. Everyone has them. Be proud of noteworthy things you've done....accomplishments or good deeds. Those are things to be proud of. But what you like in the bedroom? Meh....
