lets me break that down for ya , it is apx 43,000 people who receive the payment have NEVER worked :eek: (CSO figures )

i think 43,000 people need a good kick up the hole , and STOP the payments.
Leeches, watch how quickly they would change their tune if they were hauled up and forced to explain WHY they have never contributed to the state,

As i read it , this has nothing to do with illness or sick benefit , it has nothing to do with people who have had jobs and lost them
these are assholes who drain resources from areas needed so they can sit on their holes.

if you add just the basic dole payment per week it comes to 8,084,000 (420,368,000 per year ).

this comes to the shortfall in the health service , or the wages being cut for civil servants , and on and on.

I'm really surprised that the figures aren't higher. We all know that the system has been played by generations of people who make a 'lifestyle choice' to live on benefits. They leave school, often with little to no qualifications, start breeding early to get the council/Ras house and then often but not always, top up the income with crime. Take a look at any sink estate in the country, there is no shortage of them and you'll find the reality.

There isn't much you can do with the ones who are over 30 as they have nothing to offer an employer in such a competitive jobs market. A friend of mine has 3 kids, gets Rent allowance for a nice big house in a lovely and expensive area, drives an estate car to chauffer her kids the 10 minute walk to school in the morning, home for lunch, back to school after lunch and collect them after school, 5 days a week. Her kids do a lot of expensive after school activities. She has a couple of foreign holidays each year. Her teenage daughter just got a 200 euro mobile phone.

Every time I see her she tells me how broke she is and how life is so hard. I have to grit my teeth in order to stop myself from telling her to f*ck off. She's more money coming in to her house per month than my husband earns by going to work. She hasn't worked for 15 years because she chooses not to. I can't actually stand to see her these days, she came back to live in Ireland and hasn't done a days work yet she's cleaning up nicely benefit wise. I should add that she isn't involved in crime.

As long as this kind of system continues there will be no incentive for people to work. The system needs overhauling.

I'm not confusing anyone you describe with anyone dj. We all have real needs, just everyone has different needs. I'm a firm believer in throwing money at a problem solves nothing. The government and many people in Irish society don't share that philosophy, but that's a short term perspective we need to change if we're serious about solving the problem.

now why didn't she appeal?

cos the appeals process can take a year in which you dont get the assistance
it's just easier to take the dole , well you could starve , i guess.

I'm sick of this "I just left college and there are no jobs" crap. I see jobs advertised all the time. Mostly minimum wage jobs that don't require a qualification, but there are plenty of jobs out there. Problem is, many would rather draw dole than "stoop" to that level. In my eyes, it's better to be in any kind of employment and gaining experience of some kind than to have a large employment gap in your cv that will go against you when the perfect job does come along.
So basically, swallow your pride and take a "crap" job, the country can't afford to indulge your pride.

Something isn't stolen if it is given to a person. If you truly want to stop people availing of what they are legally entitled to, then lets hear some of of your proposals for a solution to the problem!

Someone will an ill informed opinion and clearly no actual knowledge of the situation would indeed be given to think it's as simple as that. Someone who works with people who have never experienced a days employment and have no motivation to do so would have the knowledge that the situation ISN'T as simple as you make out.

The solution is though- Work with them to give them the motivation to seek alternatives so they're not stuck in ground zero dependent on social welfare for their income which can be slashed at a whim in the next budget.

Still waiting on that PM btw in reply to my earlier invitation to come and work with me for a day, or are you just another blow hard with no interest in actually solving the issues you're crowing about while expecting to leave the work to the rest of "we people"? Yes, whatever number of that 43,000 that have never worked a day for no good reason are being unfair in their means to get money but there is always going to be people like that. Since I've seen no suggestion yet to how to fix that problem, I don't think there is a lot that can be done.

Great, now we've identified and agreed on the problem, what solutions do you propose?

Something isn't stolen if it is given to a person. If you truly want to stop people availing of what they are legally entitled to, then lets hear some of of your proposals for a solution to the problem!

Someone will an ill informed opinion and clearly no actual knowledge of the situation would indeed be given to think it's as simple as that. Someone who works with people who have never experienced a days employment and have no motivation to do so would have the knowledge that the situation ISN'T as simple as you make out.

The solution is though- Work with them to give them the motivation to seek alternatives so they're not stuck in ground zero dependent on social welfare for their income which can be slashed at a whim in the next budget.

Still waiting on that PM btw in reply to my earlier invitation to come and work with me for a day, or are you just another blow hard with no interest in actually solving the issues you're crowing about while expecting to leave the work to the rest of "we people"? Does that make you feel all warm and fuzzy too or were you just doing the usual spouting bitter platitudes on the Internet expecting people to rally in behind you?

If all you wanted was validation for your ill informed opinions might I suggest you use Facebook instead of boards if you aren't interested in discussing working together to put forward solutions instead of just preaching from your soapbox.

me, i call a lazy good for nothing scum bag when i see them , and trust me , PLENTY of them around.

and when they are weeded out , then some of the services can be called into play for the people YOU are talking about

Your argument stems from reading a newspaper and the fact that you live in the same estate as some of these people. You feel that gives you the right to suggest 43,000 people need a good kick up the hole for legally accepting money from the government?

Yes, whatever number of that 43,000 that have never worked a day for no good reason are being unfair in their means to get money but there is always going to be people like that. Since I've seen no suggestion yet to how to fix that problem, I don't think there is a lot that can be done.
