A character might be mentioned a couple of times in book 1 for instance, and then mightn't appear again until book 4 or 5! I'd often be checking the wiki on my phone to remind me of who's who. I've given up books in the past for that reason (LOTR for one) but I'm glad I kept going, they're very enjoyable.
