I'm confused as to why ,with all the back slapping over the jnlr figures that Nova has "lost" so many dj's in its first year...Enda,Hugh,Louise..and now i hear John Power is abandoning ship.....Its clear who's really running the station...and it aint Kevin....

thank you for your comment..sadly we dont listen to the likes of you and your kind..We prefer to sit on our laurels and play tunes that we are told to play decide you are worthy of listening to ,as we feel that "you" would not be capable of handling anything too "heavy" at the moment..We do however intend ,in the future to do absolutely nothing that we are not doing at the moment...if you dont like it ....tune into the likes of Phantom 105.3......................

I think that Nova's saving grace at the moment,is that they don't play that f*cking Goyte song.

It's f*cking everywhere,I cannot stand it,mind you I can't stand Billy Idol,Coldplay,Supertramp,Bon Jovi or Def Leppard,so swings and roundabouts !!:D

The Gotye song isn't that bad I think. It is probably being overplayed everywhere though. I don't listen to much commercial radio these days.

Would you not need counselling as a Nova DJ from the effects of all the repeated tunes? I used to listen to them before I nodded off at night but gave up because the same songs were repeated each night. That's just wrong!

In relation to Marty Miller, I once heard him slag off an unnamed station for its music policy. The thing is that it sounded awfully like Spin103, a station he had been with in the past! In fact, he has done stints with most of Dublin's commercially licenced stations!

As regards its music policy, it can be a bit repetitive during the day - the usual suspects, the usual songs, etc. etc. Now and then, it does add an unexpected gem to its music playlist. The problem is that it has to keep the significant number of listeners who want to hear familiar music, and of course get the adverising money. So it is not an easy balancing act. During the weekday evenings, there is quite a bit more variety in the music selection and you have the nightly album at 11 which will include plenty of tracks not normally played. And there is of course Pat James on Sunday nights who plays a very different selection of tunes - aptly called "Off the Record".

In fairness to Marty he's not that bad, Carol Dooley was filling in for him yesterday afternoon and she is considerably worse, she seems to play very safe music.

I found it quite amusing to be told I was listening to Don't Come Around Here No More by Tom Petty and The Hear earlier today. I'd assume the display for the dj cut off -tbreakers, but you'd expect any dj to have heard of them before, no?

That's a pity. I liked Mike and it was great to hear him back on the radio after such a long absence. Wherever he was, I hadn't heard him since his 2FM days. I hope he's moving on to somewhere else we can tune in to!

Life after 2FM for Mike Maloney: Lite FM, Dublin's Country 106.8 FM and Ocean FM. Mike retired from radio for a year or two and then crawled back in with temporary licenced radio: Real Radio and Christmas FM. He was with Radio Nova for its first year-and-a-half.

Another original Nova presenter who left was Hugh O'Brien. He left nearer to its first anniversary. Incidentally, Hugh was with temporary-licenced station Choice FM prior to Nova and more recently he was with Christmas FM. Off and on over the years, the radio careers of Hugh and Mike have overlapped, but bear in mind that Hugh's main career was in law. Both were with the original Radio Nova. Both were for a short spell with 2FM at the same time (Hugh having the shorter period there). Both were in the original lineup of Lite FM. Both were with Dublin's Country, although Hugh was part of the original lineup and Mike joined a little later. And, of course, last but not least, both were in the original weekend lineup for the current Radio Nova.

Also gone from the original lineup: Enda Murphy (4FM) and Breffni Clack (Q102). Breffni was the original presenter of Flashback on Sunday mornings before concentrating on newsreading. She was succeeded by Dee Woods, who briefly read the news. Dee was succeeded as presenter of Flashback by John Power. This year, John Bowe has succeeded John Power. Enda Murphy, who presented Weeknights on Nova, was succeeded by the aforementioned Dee Woods.

On the other hand, the following presenters from the original lineup are still there: Pat Courtenay, Greg Gaughren, Marty Miller, Rick Wakeman (!), Barry Egan (interviews) and Pat James. And of course Carol Dooley is still there too.

Was listening to Nova late last Sunday night,and it's like a different station,quality album tracks,songs that you don't hear them play day in and day out,really good choice of music.

I know they have an audience to cater for,but a shake up now and again wouldn't hurt.

Just heard one of their jingles,it goes something like,"we'd come with a health warning".

yeah for your ears,repetitive song choice injuries !!!

I wouldn't have thought so as she left Nova some time ago. She has been doing a few gigs with 4FM and has been a full-time presenter (practically 7 days a week) with Sunshine 106.8. I believe the PD of Nova is that Australian guy who used to be with 98FM - Jeff O'Brien (did I get his name right?).

Yes Carol left nova a while back. Eastcoast is a curious beast and suffers from Dublin expats staying loyal to Dublin stations much in the same way as KFM and LMFM do. While KFM and LMFM very much brand their stations as kildare and louth stations respectively, ive found that eastcoast struggle with their wicklow identity. Up till recently i found their playlist more akin to fm104 than a station striving to meet the musical needs of the 14 - 49 age profile, which they really should be trying to do. Most recently i have noticed a slight shift in their policy so perhaps they are addressing the over reliance on newer music. Carol has a tough job on her hands.

The problem is not purely north wicklow. Its also west wicklow where people are more likely to have KFM tuned in and further south on the road to arklow and beyond where the Eastcoast signal is patchy at best , where people are obviously tuning in to other regional stations at eastcoast's expense.

Eastcoast permanently fluctuates around the same market share regardless of who their PD is. I think it will be a tough task for Carol to bring anything new to eastcoast without a massive campaign / injection of cash on an ongoing basis.

After listening to Marty Miller the other day when he played Duran Duran !!!!!! and Coldplay in the same hour,you'd have to ask.

At the risk of repeating myself(I know),why do we have to wait until Sunday evenings to get a really good show on Nova,Pat James plays some fabulous stuff,stuff I've not heard in ages.

I know they have their target audience and it seems to be working for them,but a bit of a shake-up(again I know),change the playlists,stop the dj's from trying to be wacky and maaaad,Courtney I'm looking at you,and we could have a cracking little station.

I emailed them a while ago and asked them if they'd do a listener survey,still waiting on a reply...
