An explosion at a fertilizer plant near Waco has left up to 100 people, including children, injured as reports emerged that a nursing home had collapsed trapping dozens inside. Firefighters are reporting multiple injuries as casualties were being rushed to local hospitals in Waco, Texas. The blast at the West Fertilizer plant happened around 7.50pm (CST) on Wednesday and fires continue to burn at the scene. An emergency triage center has been set up at a nearby baseball field. Troopers have been transporting the injured to hospitals in patrol cars, according to Gayle Scarbrough, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety in Waco. Six helicopters were also en route. Interstate 35 in McLennan County was closed following the blast. Major damage has been reported to homes and vehicles including a nearby funeral home and apartment building, according to NBC5. A dispatcher with the West Texas Fire Department says the explosion happened at a fertilizer plant in the community north of Waco. This Friday, April 19, marks the 20th anniversary of the Waco Siege where 76 men, women and children lost their lives. Hundreds of people were likely injured, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety told Reuters. The spokesman, D.L. Wilson, added that a nearby nursing home collapsed from the blast and that people were believed to be trapped inside.
The number of cases in the Swansea measles epidemic has increased to 808, officials say. Public Health Wales said an extra 43 cases of the disease had been reported since Tuesday. A targeted MMR vaccination campaign has started at five comprehensives in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot involving more than 2,000 pupils. Meanwhile vaccination sessions will be run in all 13 of Powys' high schools in the coming weeks. Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board has said more schools in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot areas will offer MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations in the future.

It comes as the latest figures for Swansea show measles cases have rocketed to 808 - with an extra 43 being reported since Tuesday. Extra clinics are expected to be held at local hospitals this weekend, with health officials now anticipating a rush of parents and children wanting the jab. Health workers are due at Cwmtawe School in Pontardawe today to immunise hundreds of children. Since the beginning of the outbreak, a total of 77 people have been hospitalised because of the contagious disease. Many of those being treated are babies and teenagers, with the latter said to be most at risk.
Some 35 people, including 10 first responders, were killed in the Texas fertilizer company explosion Wednesday night, according to West Mayor Tommy Muska. The casualties include five members of the West Volunteer Fire Department who were trying to put out the initial blaze, four EMS workers and an off-duty Dallas firefighter who pitched in to help, Muska has told USA Today. The rest of the fatalities include residents from nearby homes in the devastated four-block area of the small north-central Texas town 20 miles north of Waco. The explosion occurred Wednesday night, damaging or destroying buildings within a half-mile radius. At least 50 homes and buildings were destroyed.
