whatever - I still have no control over the process..........if I did I'd have re-incarnated myself as a god among women and some, actually scratch that, a couple of beautiful ones would be carrying out unspeakably pleasurable (for me) acts upon my gorgeous manly body right now

OP - Buddhism has a lot on this (to say the least).

It fits nicely with the theory of Karma. You might get away with being a dick or might get no reward for being nice in this life.....but come the next life the books get balanced.

You develop habits through choices on how to live, your consciousness, your personality takes on traits and these carry through after death to the new life.
Supposedly works with developed talents too, so the likes of a 4 year old playing Beethoven just brought it from his previous life as a musician.
