I would say people living their lives in a way they think society wants them to be, look and act instead of what feels right and important to them. Too many people just want want want it is all about materialistic bull sh1t and trying to be better than others because they have more which is a retarded view on life because guess what your going to die and it will mean nothing.
I would rather live a life with less money and have more time to enjoy the things that make me happy.

I have never met a failure at life. I have never met someone who didn't desire something. I have met people who have failed at something, but we all experience failure at some point.

Those two people I was speaking about were my own mother and one of my sisters. I, myself, suffer from anxiety disorder with agoraphobia. I understand the stigma attached to mental illness.

I don't think that being too embarrassed to do something is the same as not having a desire to do it. There are plenty of people who do want to go and get the help they need, but are crippled by anxiety and the perception that they'll be judged or ostracized over it. It's a difficult step to take, which is what makes it extra important and great when people do eventually make it.

As for being a failure, I don't think I've ever met a true failure at life either. Although sometimes I think that people who bring children into the world and then abuse them or neglect them are kind of failing as parents and people.

Most people who feel this way are not suffering from under achievement but lack of direction.

What is most important to remember is you can only fail to achieve your own goals. Forget what others have or don't have. Forget the expectations and apparent achievements of others. Just ask yourself what is important to you.

If you still feel you are failing just take a step back from those life long ambitions and set yourself some really simple, realistic, very achievable short term goals and just focus on those for the time being.

When you see you can achieve a goal raise the bar a little. It helps to write it down, and always set a date to do it, not a date to have it done by.

Some of the happiest people do not have any great desire to achieve, to become, to succeed, to be somebody.

They are not continually looking to the future for fulfillment.

tbh work/career wouldnt shape my opinion on a person being a failure/success, in my opinion being successful in life means that you are happy, screw what ever anyone else thinks, if your happy thats all that counts (could be a hobby, job, relationship, or dole)

Maybe success or failure isn't measured by material accumulation; if one wishes to work 100 hours a week or not work at all, what difference does it make? We're all going to end up in a care-home, staring at each other and taking bets on what kind of cancer we're going to get.

Its the (previous) Governments fault there is no jobs or no prospects so why should people go literally slaving at least there is a safety net. The entire social welfare system should be preserved and expanded. If they plan on cutting it then they better lower taxes alot and dramatically increase Gardai numbers because there will be a hell of alot of angry people. The dole is the only thing preventing Civil War in Ireland today.

This. Far too many people put too high a focus on what you work at to gauge 'success'.

Remember that the all the majority of us do working is to make money for somebody else who is higher up on the pile.

It can't be we are spending 21 billion a year on welfare it needs to be reduced if anything.

Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was a genius musician & created a lot of wealth for his family, but in a lot of other ways, he was a joke.

He couldn't handle the basics of living as a 'normal' person, let alone be a good husband to his wife, or be a good role model to his daughters.
