So, what you playing at the mo? Retro Edition

Just finished Earthbound /sniff sniff.

Now if there was ever a game I just did not want to reach the ending of, this was it. Could have happily played it forever!

Edit - balls, don't know what to play now! Have spent so long playing Earthbound and Phantasy Star IV over the last couple of months that I now have an empty void.

Anyone recommend a good RPG?

Well there's always the fan translation of Mother 3. You should read up about Earthbound now, it's very interesting about the themes and influences shigesato itoi had for the game.

And if you have a 3DS then Crimson Shroud is an absolute must.

Is Mother 3 good? I wonder would it be possible to use a GBA flash cart with the Gamecube GBA player so I could play through it on the tv.

Very interesting (and downright weird!) influences alright. I quite like the

'end of innocence' type ideas floating about regarding the end. Very apt.

That bit at the end where their souls are taken from their bodies and put into robots completely took me from left field, I was shocked.

Part of me didn't want them to make it back as I thought it would have been incredible to have something so heartbreaking in what appeared to be a kids game. Glad they did though

That whole last level, from when they became robots to the colouring/design of the level itself with the music...just so foreboding. When 'Oisin prays for Ness etc' came up on the screen I realized I actually was praying for them

. Amazing 4th wall breaking. Has to be one of my favourite moments in videogames ever

Mother 3 is spectacularly good. I prefer Earthbound but Mother 3 would be the better game in terms of gameplay. It's got amazing writing as well but I think Earthbound wins in that regard, Mother 3's messages are a bit more obvious than earthbound.

Just don't read up about it before playing, there's major spoilers right from the get go.

Wasted a morning on the cab again, so no games played

Because my boy finished DQIX I was considering if he should take a crack at DQVIII or VI, but if he's especially good at school today I'm going to reveal Ni No Kuni to him!
I haven't had any time to play anything recently, and it seems like a shame to have spent €50 on the game and not see it played.

Oh, I told a small fib, we did play about 10mins of Pink Sweets together this morning, before he went to school.
My boy is lucky to have a dad like me!

Just spent the evening trying to remember how to get GBA games to load off a flash cart in the DS. Finally remembered

Currently erasing the NOR to load Mother 3. Fingers crossed!

Was playing Streets of Rage 3 last night and it was kinda boring and I didnt notice much of difference between it and its predecessor, well apart from the shoddy music soundtrack and sound effects.
Was going to play Bare Knuckle 3 but apparently streets is harder, is there wny reason to try out th3 jap version?
Had a few minutes at Crisis Force as well and the more I play that gake the more I love it. A lot of interesting ideas in it like the obstacles in tge third stage, seems far more inventive than sonic wings special.
I really haven't played many shmups and maybe Crisis Force is rather bland in the overall scheme of things but out of Raiden Trad on sega, darius twin on snes and sonic wings special on saturn its my favourite.
Those titles being what I played recently.
Going through a bit of a nes stage, any recommendations?

Streets of Rage 3 was censored and altered to bits. Always go with Bare Knuckle 3, it's far better.

Whoever censored it had an issue with the gays.

Ash was totally removed.

Wasnt that impressed with it and I don't think uncensored version will make much of a difference especially cause its c meant to be easier.

Ah it's nowhere near as good as SOR 2. The music in it is particularly awful. But if you're ever going to play SOR 3, just play Bare Knuckle 3 instead and put it on hard mode.

The sound is just brutal in it all right. Its onky saving grace is the end of stage sound, it stayed the same.
If I do play it, I will do it bare knuckled.
However, it really does deserve Ciderman's ****s of Rage moniker.

The reason the music is so bad is because they got all experimental and tried to use a random note generator - and failed miserably! Its such a shame as the music in the first two games is brilliant.

Still, the sprites and animation in SOR 3/BK 3 are still huge and really impressive.

One of the worst pieces of music ever made. SOR 3 disco level. I always want to break my Megadrive for creating such sounds

The fact that Bare Knuckle 3 is easier makes the game 100 times more playable. It's a much better game as a result. Whoever decided it was a good idea to increase the damage taken by four in the western release should be shot. Try Bare Knuckle 3, you'll be surprised how much such a small balancing issue like that makes it a far better game.

The Mother games are like crack! Couldnt put M3 down last night and I'm an absolute zombie now this morning as a result.

Will probably do the same tonight.

Was up until 3AM playing Chrono Trigger and finished it. That game is still one of the best ever made.

I really need to get back to Chrono Trigger, got sidetracked by the real world for far too long..

I still think it's the best Snes game ever made. Earthbound and Super Metroid come very very close, but there's something about Chrono that puts it ahead for me.

Possibly Frog.

I really don't understand why they'd hold on to a license for an IP that they seem to have absolutely no interest in. I'd say some of the Kickstarter (if it ever got going) would be to buy the rights.
