Let's all have a guess what's in the safe while we are waiting. I'm going with some old bank statements insurance stuff and some old Irish coins.

Did ya hear that it looks like they're going to do a 'merican version of this? They'll probably bastardize it just like they did to Shameless.

Am i the only one that:

    a) tried to go to ira.ie
    b) was disappointed that it's already been taken
    c) even more disappointed that that it's only a holding page, and there's no-one selling balaclavas on it......

This thread reminds me of when billy was a kid running around the streets of London and one Christmas morning I was dying to play the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the commoder 64. I was waiting months to play it. Most exciting time ever.

Santa wasn't even fully back up the chimney before I ran down the stairs ripped open the wrapping paper, open the box and there was nothing inside. :(

In all seriousness, you should contact one of the radio stations (Darcy or Foley probably), give them the backstory & then do a live on air opening. They'll pay for the locksmith.

Don't do this. If there's anything valuable with it then you'll be forced to give it up to the dead man's relatives. AH doesn't have those kinds of morals.

You're an Eastenders character. Misery and disappointment is par for the course on Christmas day. :o

I don't know how I'm so hooked on this thread!

OP set up a site with a livestream of the safe and one of those paypal donate buttons, people will definitely pay towards the locksmith.

I know I will, I have to know!!!

The internet also has no morals but high horses are forged from the weekly email bag those radio shows get and will want you to give it all to charity.

    This thread is riveting!

My boring predictions as to the contents: £5,000 in punts, a few prize bonds and deeds to some land.

Step 1: Drill 1/4" inch hole straight down through door.
Step 1a (optional): Use an endoscope to see what's in there.
Step 2: fill safe with water until brimmed.
Step 3: Lower in a small explosive charge. A run of the mill quarter stick will do. (they have waterproof fuses too which is nice :) )
    Step 4: run away.
    Step 5: run back.
Step 6: PROFIT! (unless the profit was paper money and or anything water soluble but Step 1a should have avoided this outcome.)
Step 7: share the loot with me!

etch the shape of a box on top of the safe, drill around the shape, hammer out the centre and access the safe.

Grumble grumble. It wouldn't have taken Spielberg this long. He'd be on the 4th part of the trilogy by now.

Yup, this is what we're dealing with

I don't care what's in the safe, I just need to know.

But I'm guessing at some world war 2 memorabilia. Hitler's head preserved alive in a jar or similar, if I'm being realistic about it.

Look guys if a safe, it's made not to be broken into. I don't have the money to pay for a locksmith and I don't have the time to spend the day chiselling away. Best I can do is a bit more chiselling in the morning and hopefully drill a hole into the safe to get a look. So please be patient.

And please remember I full expect this safe to be empty.

I live in Meath, I might consider a trust worthy member to give me a hand!

Realistically; I wouldn't be surprised if there were cash in there.

Who buys a £250 safe and doesn't use it? You only buy a safe like that if you plan on using it properly.

It seems to be quite common place in Ireland that people of an.... older prediciment... to keep a sum of their money "under their matress" so to speak. Can't trust those dodgy banks!

I reckon there is at least €300 in there.

Considering the previous owner died after a long battle with cancer I would imagine he emptied it long before he died.
