I just recently moved to Paris as I am studying one semester here. I decided I'd move in with 3 of my class mates, as it was a relatively cheaper place and great location. However, it's now 10 days in and my blood is absolutely boiling. Here's the situation, two of them have worked part time jobs since the summer so they have their own money as well as availing of the Erasmus grant. I have already been on Erasmus so I can't avail of that, nor did I work last semester part-time so money is quite tight at the moment. HOWEVER, before you say anything, I clean, I wash my clothes, I actually clean up their f**king s**t which they leave around and as I said I am on breaking point. ever since we got here all they do is vegetate as they bought a HDMI cable so they can watch the football etc. I have said it to them twice to take out the bins and clean up as there are now a load of fruit flies having orgies by the minute. Unfortunately, France's culture of letting is very old-fashioned, and getting a place like this is once in a blue moon. My only viable option is that I have one very good friend au-pairing at the moment and he's on the verge of leaving his host family also. What would you do? As I am typing I am trembling with anger at these slobs, I know it's harsh but it's a bloody masters grow up ffs. :mad:

Is you issue with them not tidying up after themselves? I can't see what money has to do with it. Maybe get a parttime job to get you out of the apt so you're not looking at them laying about all the time. Youll have some of your own money that way too. win-win

If you have the option to move out and in with your other friend then you probably should.

If it's not a viable option financially then you are either going to have to get used to having the place in a mess or get used to cleaning up after them. People like that rarely change so the nagging them route probably won't result in anything other than making you angrier.

You're only going to be there for one semester. If money is tight, there is no point in moving out. Ask the lads to clean up after themselves, if they don't, stab the two of them, that'll learn them to mess with you.

I don't know if moving in with my mate is fully an option yet, as he has interviews next week for jobs so I mean I could hang on til he knows if he's here for longer. He also is treated like s**t by his host family. It's living with all guys I suppose is the reason, I lived with a mix before Xmas and the place was kept in a good condition and we all seemed to get on. 3 other classmates live downstairs, 2 guys 1 girl, and having the girl you can see the place is kept clean. I'm far from a neat freak, but I do like to cook my own dinner without some flies humping my butter.

so, this is basically a green light that I can stab them? Haha. One out of the three was in my undergrad, and he's a great lad. But I think he's just a bit lead astray by the other 2 by being messy and what have you.

Ask to have a house 'meeting'.
Be nice but firm.
If you are all good friends then things will change.
If nothing changes as a result of a meeting where you air your grievances then move out.

Sounds like my house when the parents used to take a weekend break away when we were younger. The place was always a kip when they returned. It was hardly ever worth their while going. If only they had five daughters instead of five sons.

Either tell them to shape up, or clean the place properly yourself. It's a universal law that you can throw out someone else's crap if it's causing flies. There is no point whining to us about it, man up and bring it.

i'm kind of over reacting like cause it's so early on but yeah I mean it's the "yeah we'll clean up" attitude that I hate. I'll see how this week goes, post up a cleaning rota see how they take it if they end up takin the piss then it's time to gtfo of Dodge. Thanks all

Worst idea ever! Better to try and get everyone to clean up after themselves. Sounds like the op would be happy if they washed their dishes and didn't leave crap lying around the place. I bet if the op did up a rota, they would get twice as bad just to wind him up more. OP pay your share, clean your own personal space, after that, fck 'em.

let them sit around in **** if they want, thats their problem. If you have your own room get yourself a mini fridge and a microwave and kettle. (make use of the college canteen, take a lunchbox for bringing stuff back) ( disposable paper plates = gift of the highest gods) keep your own spot clean, stick some air fresheners to the outside of your door, leave the window ajar. (maybe duct tape the doorframe from the inside)

after that just ignore the peasants and squalor as you make your way in/out the place. let them eat week old cake.

shower/groom in college, couple of container of water for brushing teeth in the morning.

for poopage..ehm..difficult...maybe some kind of portable chair device with a hole cut in it that lets you hover above the dropzone.
or a barrel of that blue port-a-poop stuff, or just schedule your dumps, or leave and go to a pub.

basically if you put your mind to it you can live in a nice hygenic bubble while they die of dysentery

If you think they're bad now,wait till you see how they react to you doing that without talking to them first. They will go from being messy through laziness to being disgusting on purpose just to piss you off for being so presumptious.

the HDMI cable for those of you who haven't used one, is basically plugged into a laptop and matches are streamed. the house was signed in the guy that's causing the most mess's name, it's just a bit of a mess (no pun intended) to get out of. I know I could like but the fact we're in the same class would make it amazingly awkward. I reckon I'll scrap the rota idea, and just put their dirty plates in their rooms, or even their beds. hopefully the flies will vacate for the spring then.
