Anyone else still waiting on SUSI Grant?

Hi,
Im a first year undergrad student at UCD and i was wondering if anyone else was having difficulty with the SUSI Grant?

Applied really early and sent my evidence (P21's etc..) away in Early August and not a peep out of them!

Rang and they say they havent even looked at my stuff and it'll be another 5-6 weeks before the bother. (not their exact words but whatever. :P )

Another friend called and they told her four months?? CRAZY!

One of my friends hackled them for ages, calling every day until eventually they said gowan..have the grant! (Again, not their exact words :P)

Just cant believe that this new "improved" system is so terrible?!

Anyone else having trouble with them..or heard back??

It will be interesting to see what progress has been made over the next couple of days. Wasn't their goal to have 30000 or so grants approved by today. Last figures released were on the 19th stating that 17,373 applications were approved and 11,404 have been paid. They also expected to have another couple of thousand paid by the 21th. Like I said the next couple of days will be interesting......

I have applied for a maintenance grant from SUSI and got a letter back from them in November after the intervention of my local TD. I have been awarded a student contribution/fee grant but no maintenance.

I have entered into an add-on year this year and as I was receiving BTEA and the maintenance grant in 2009 I am entitled to the same for this academic year. I have sent an appeal which was received by SUSI on 6th of December and AIT students union are also chasing my case since early December. There has been no response to any of the communication and when I call I am told that my appeal is being assessed.

I have already had to ask my landlord to accept less rent until I get this sorted and many bills are being left to one side. I am sure I am not the only student in this postition but this is gone beyond a joke.

Has anyone had a reply regarding a similar appeal?

If you are in reciept of BTEA you are not entitled to the maintenance grant also

Yes but if this poster started in 2009 there is a possibility that he still is.

Yes the original course was started in 2009 and this year is an approved add-on. As per the statutory instrument that outlines the guidelines for approving grants my application was incorrectly turned down.

So last week got a confirmations that I was accepted on Favebook. Got the letter today. All happy now got re awarded everything I had for past 3 years. A long nerve wrecking 6 month process.

Got ''some'' good news today that I have been awarded my grant however I will have to appeal as I was meant to receive the adjacent special rate but instead received 100% full maintenance. Has anyone had any luck with appeals ?

There are dates here but I think people are also getting backdated payments on different dates

Hey, the SUSI letter that says you have been provisionally accepted for the grant, here are the documents that we need to make sure you're eligable for the grant letter will do.
E.g. them asking for birth certs etc.

i sent an appeal in and tried to see what has happend with is so far but i dont have the application number from the award letter is there anything i can do

I asked them via facebook last week and they said the last Friday of every month.

I think the dates from the link instead. Especially since it was posted to their website.

It has been proved that the way SUSI was established it has not been efficient, I hate this phrase but will use it anyway "Not fit for purpose".

Not much good now to students under financial pressure who are still waiting for their grant in January, but I suggest now that SUSI be privatised in time for the start of the next academic year. Of course any new body will have the advantage of learning from the mistakes made on the first attempt.

Experienced something similar. Received special rate past three years. Refused maintenance grant initially thus year and appealed to be awarded 100% today but not special rate. Rang susi and lady on phone said it is likely a mistake was made but I'd have to appeal again. I asked about entering my bank details and was told I wasn't entitled to a maintenance grant according to the computer??? I then reminded her what we had spoke about for the last 5 minutes. Following this I asked for the web address where I should enter my details (an acknowledgment had been made again that I was entitled to something) and she didn't know and put me on hold to look it up. Incredible to be honest. Wondering has anyone else had a situation like this rectified? Nothing's shocking at this point.

Yes, we had exactly the same with my son's grant. My TD got the fools to review their review.
The bottom line is they haven't a clue what they're doing, & couldn't seem to care less.

You’re appeal was upheld and your application has gone back for re-assessment, once the re-assessment process is complete, you will be sent a letter confirming the award. If you have been awarded the special rate, the money owed to you will be reimbursed to you.

so at least it is being processed sadly no idea how long that will take
still do it is better to have the fees payed and some of the grant than no grant at all

My issue is that it is now 2013, 2012 is now over and done with yet they are still going on the income for 2011 and as far as im concerned my application was approved in 2013.

What's even worse is that they never took the change of circumstances into account after me making it all clear in my original application back in June 2012. The income that came into my household for 2012 was over 2 grand less then what the special rate limit is. The funny part is that a few weeks ago they wanted a social welfare statement for 2012. Makes no sense

Does SUSI consider when rental properties are in debt? I've looked at the pdf and I'm not sure. My family have a rental property which is in debt (mortgage repayments), so we don't actually make any money from the property rather the opposite; we have to pay the balance of the mortgage, are there provisions for this?

We are one of the many familes who bought properties during the boom and now can't sell it and barely make ends meet on the property.

SUSI are saying that we make a few thousand from the property but we don't and we've sent in documentation saying as such but they won't listen. We've sent in an appeal but I just don't know anymore....

Now, I gave that letter to the college when they were asking for fees, but I found out a few months back my grant application has been denied.

I haven't heard anything from the college in relation to paying the fees myself, and this is after 4 months of attendance.

Just wondering should I ask the admin people about it, or just let it lie and hope they forgot about me??

They won't forget.

You will probably be denied library access or results from exams
