Dublin 15 Pet Peeves

First of all I must point out that I've lived in Dublin 15 my whole life and really love the area. In fact I am proud to call it home. We're very lucky in that we have great resources in our area. Some examples include IT Blanchardstown, The National Aquatic Centre and, of course, the The Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, not mention the M50, the Phoenix Park on our door step and various other recreational facilities in the locality. We have trains running through our postcode, direct buses to the City and the airport is only a short spin away also.

So with that being said, are there any things about Dublin 15 that get on your wick?

As for me? Well I've just a small issue that had me thinking earlier and wanted get off my chest. That is the recently (enough) signalled junction at the Blakestown and Hartstown Road. For years this has been serviced by a simple roundabout and had no real issues but nowadays it's havoc. Lights that let one or two vehicles out at a time and cause major jams for no reason. I dont know why they changed it!!!

Again, this thread is intended as a general pet peeves type of set-up, not just traffic! So if it's a lack of something or other in your area, an extra bus route you feel is needed, or the Leisure Plex not being open 24hours anymore :P then say it here. Try to keep posts relevant to D15 and its environs and as always, keep the good aul scriptures (The Charter) in mind.

Do you not think that size is a much bigger(pun not intended) issue ? Also I had a great idea for people on/over the white line , its above!

Many times I have the Mother with me an she has had operations on her knees and more often than not I have to let her out before going into the space. I’m big myself and find it challenging getting into a space and getting out of the car at times.

I tried the diagonal parking in liffey valley and found it a nightmare , so much that a girl nicely banged her door off my car twice with me sitting in it.

Id have to say it goes down to greed , why lose precious parking spaces to make em bigger etc , when the truth of the matter most of the times the car parks aren’t even full , so this is a non issues , but try telling the powers that be this !

Oh and while we are at it , I have one that I avoid but I would hate it if I didn’t :

Green/dunnes car park , how come people ALWAYS parallel park where there isnt places , its the row to the left of the walkway if you look over to Know how etc

Laziness. And a very elevated sense of self importance. It's the same reason that people park disabled persons parking spaces.

I hear you on this as a parent of small ones. We have a 5yo, 4yo and a newborn and getting them all in and out of the car in a sliver of a parking space is a NIGHTMARE. Particularly getting them back in safely and being sure they are buckled in securely when its impossible to open the car door fully, and its not viable to pull out of the space with so many little ones. I love places with proper parent and child parking spaces that give you extra room to manage the kids, and by extension I pi$$ing hate lazy fecks without small kids who will park in them just so they don't have to walk far. Tesco in Roselawn and Aldi in Clonee in particular have this kind of bottom dweller frequently.

I've been known to verbally savage people who take the last P&C space, get out of their car alone and stroll to the shop while I struggle with small kids in a regular space. :mad: I know its a waste of my breath to complain to them, but at least it lets me vent the frustration instead of being grumpy and ending up getting short with the kids.

The 38 bus route - it's great that they extended it but almost every bus sees a driver change at either Parnell Square or Trinity, adding 5 mins plus to the journey. The weekend/off peak schedule is brutal too.

Shopping centre traffic delaying me getting to places I need to be most weekends and for the month of December.

The lack of a decent Tesco (I usually shop at the one on the Navan Road now rather than go to the dump in Roselawn).

They are really going to have to do something about the car park where Tesco Mulhuddart is. Remove the parking spaces outside the gate to widen the gap even because one car waiting to come out and one car turning to come in can be a nightmare at times.

I noticed there is a new supermarket open in Mulhuddart Village (today was my first time seeing it) I think its the unit that was bike shop, facing the Spar and Post Office. The reason I noticed it, was someone doing a 6pt turn trying to park in front of it and leaving the road impassable in both directions for a time. Doesn't bode well for an already congested spot.

That used to be an asian store, which had some nice bits and pieces like 1l of soya sauce and mirin but it changed hands recently and seems to cater for more sudan/nigerian food stuffs now, with no real shelves and stuff just randomly stacked up in heaps or on palettes.

There's a 24 hr garage in hartstown to get your milk another option

My pet peave is people who live in carpenters town but call it castleknock my favourite one live in whitestown and call it Blanchardstown

I met a girl before doing the whole D4 accent crap said she was from blanchardstown oh what part she the proceeded to tell me she lived in corduff

I live in Whitestown (newer part) and my address *is* Blanchardstown, it is on my mortgage papers etc. as Blanchardstown. I'm from the area anyway so was a bit skeptical at the start

but I'm hardly going to change it.

And parts of whitestown have clonsilla or mulhudart on the deeds due to how the land is parceled out. Sure all of d15 gets called the greater blanchardstown area and land regisration wise it and Ashtown are the barony of castleknock.

The lack of a good community directory, D15 is big enough to be a large town and most of them will have such things, instead of trying to trawl through various directories and websites.

Land registries.. Your typing muck there's not a person in whitestown who thinks they live in clonsilla for 26 years I've graced this area before it was called the greater blanch area and back then everyone knew where they lived...

The bookshop in Roselawn is still there but we could do with more, Eason's is a glorified newagents and even if your order a book in with them they never contact you.

Easons and Wise Owl Bookshop in Roselawn? They're not comprehensive book stores but they are classed as book stores.

That's just like saying that Tesco is a pharmacy or Halfords is a bike shop. To me (and others) they don't count.

No local public transportation

The "Greater Blanchardstown Area" is big enough to deserve having one or two local buses - linking north - work places, with residential south, with shopping in between.

I imagine two loops to be handy (and probably having enough commuters in peak hours to sustain it). for example:

- North-West; Ongar - Clonsilla train station - BSC - Corduff/ ITB - Hartstown - Balycoolen - Tyrrelstown - Damastown - Clonee - Ongar

- South-East: Carperterstown - Coolmine (train st.) - BSC - Balycoolin - Resomount - Curduff/Waterville - Blanch. Hospital - Blanch village - Castelknock station - Carperterstown

And of course there is lack of connections with other peripherial parts of the city - especially to the airport.

I know the removed roundabout at Huntstown/Whitestown was brought up already but it does my nut in,
Driving from Lidl to Huntstown waiting at the lights - The lights turn green for Huntstown to Lidl to get there turn and every time the green right turn arrow light goes on for 5 seconds and there all going straight keeping me and every other car in every direction at a red for 5 seconds longer

WHY

Did they install the lights with no plan? YES

Do they not check back on them a week/month/year later to see how there doing? NO

Job done badly everybody knows this yet there still the same, Grrrrrrr

Avoid the centre but get caught on them set of lights, Pffff
