Lessons for a 5 year old

Any suggestions of an instrument for a 5 year old to play apart from tin whistle. His brother plays fiddle so I don't want him to do that also.

Well this kid is only 6 so think of it...the younger they learn the better they get very fast as if the kid likes it he/she could learn very well. This is just an example of what can be done as very young aged kids can learn very fast if they take to something.

Why not??? I play whistles but if I had a choice to be good at anything it would be the fiddle, it has to be the most welcomed instrument at any session! Plus I believe it has similar fingering to the mandolin which could open up a few other avenues down the line.

concertina? i'm a banjo teacher and often have young kids coming in looking for lessons. under sevens are too young for the banjo because their fingers can't stretch to the notes and their arms aren't long enough. I'd image it would be the same story as the guitar...unless your a mini genius like the guy in the youtube vid
