They do, yeah. You can get M4 Slims. You're right though; not much in it price-wise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

Oh, good to know. Is the M4 the preferred of the two? Is it as near EOL as the 830?

paid £40 for them last week :(

EDIT: for anyone interested, im very happy with them. peak around 70+mbps download speed. no hickups etc. waaay more stable than wireless.

as mentioned in a review, the easiest way to set them up is to ignore the instruction booklet and do this:
ignore the instructions, just do this...
    1) Connect your 1st homeplug to your broadband router via supplied network lead
    2) Connect your 2nd homeplug to your other PC/Xbox/Laptop etc
    3) Press the pair button on the 1st home plug in for 1 second (power LED will slowly flash)
    4) RUN to the 2nd homeplug and press pair button in for 1 Second
    5) Both units will flash for a minute or two (not sure why it takes this length of time, but it don't matter - go make a cuppa) and then the connection should be established. Turn on your other PC/Xbox/Laptop device etc and enjoy.

I actually bought the 200mbps pack there a couple of weeks ago. It pretty much maxes out my connection most of the time and I am happy enough with them however they are greatly susceptible to interference (e.g. a cheap laptop charger I bought off ebay was causing my speeds to half - but I presume the charger had no shielding on it)

In terms of LAN network speeds... would this be limited by the standard modem that Eircom provide? Would you have to get a switch to make full use of this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,710 ✭✭✭Monotype

Eircom probably have different routers, so you'd have to check what the speed limits are for each individual one. Cheaper ones might be maxed out at 100Mbps, but that's only a guess.

I got one of these myself and wow, amazon delivered the next day. Lightning fast. :pac: Nice.

What sort of distance will these do? Is it going to need to be on the same circuit?

They can work across circuits once they originate from the same fuse/breaker box. The technical limit for homeplugs is about 300m, but I'd imagine the quality of service wouldn't be great at all as you get approach to the maximum.

I thought these were a no go for alot of people.

I know I cant use them in my house, as the upstairs and downstrairs power are on separate breakers. Ended up using UPC's service to move the box from downstairs upstairs and then ran ethernet accross the attic.

All in all cost me €50 to get them out and do the job, they gave me cabling aswell

By all accounts they should work fine for most Irish houses. There was an interesting thread on it here over in the broadband forum last year, although much of the finer detail went over my head at the time (and still does :o).

Gah. I can't buy downloads as I'm not in US, what's the workaround-proxy US address?

However, got Saints row the third for €17:46 delivered - as opposed to €30 on Gamestop.:)
Just add a US address to your amazon account. I've bought loads of download games from them.

You can use a address generator to get a proper American address, I used this one and it worked.

Doubt they'll honour it, but I sent in an order anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭Fluffy88

Just put in an order too, would be amazing to get it but probably not :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 598 ✭✭✭Tij da feen

Just did the same. Unlikely but in the off chance they do honour it I'd be kicking myself.

A friend of mine who is always broke needs a good card so lets see how it turns out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

they will just go with some bull**** like: oh we ran out of stock etc. Plus on top of that it is pixmania we are talking about. if amazon would do such **** up then 90% chance it owuld be honored!

If people ordered only 1 card along with something else, we would have a chance. But here, "let me order a bunch and see if they're gonna honour it" nope, that never works :s

Yep, when they get 1000 orders for them it'll definitely be stopped, where as a handful might just slip through.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

Chances look even slimmer now with so many ordering multiple cards. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

    Chalk up one more. :P

Highly doubt it'll go through, but if it does it'll make a wonderful present for a friend of mine.

You don't understand consumer law, that's not how it works but best of luck with it.

iy'll be an expensive waste of your time.

theyre under no obligation to sell at that price and theyre backed by law.

It is an invitation to treat. They do not have to sell it to you for that price.

Also looks like it is sold by "Eurieka".

why arent they obligated and how are they backed by law?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭zom

Did anyone realise that it is (was) sold by Irish company eurieka.ie?
This is part of my order confirmation:

    ASUS GeForce GTX 570 DirectCUII - 1280 MB GDDR5 - PCI-Express
    2.0 (ENGTX570 DCII/2DIS/1280MD5) Sold by Eurieka
    Quantity: 1 € 29.57
    AMD Phenom II X4 980 3.7 GHz Black Edition 125 W
    (HDZ980FBGMBOX) Sold by Eurieka
    Quantity: 1 € 62.63

There is still this fancy Phenom there, I was unsure if I should go for it, but now when that asus happened I tried both. It will be really surprise if I get any of this.

It's as God Father said, it's an invitation to treat not an offer. If they spot the mistake before they dispatch the card then they can cancel the transaction.

  • Registered Users Posts: 196 ✭✭God Father

    Invitation to treat:

"an expression of willingness to negotiate. A person making an invitation to treat does not intend to be bound as soon as it is accepted by the person to whom the statement is addressed."

It is not a binding agreement and no contract has been made yet.

You never know, we might get lucky and they might send out the cards, highly unlikely though.

If I remember correctly something like this happened with Dell before. Can anyone remember what happened there?

Yeah i get it its just an order not a receipt damn..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

Displayed shop prices are also an invitation to treat. If they make a mistake they do not have to honour it but some will to keep good customer relations.
1 customer 1 item, not a big loss and it keeps the customer happy.

On the internet it's a different story when there can be hundreds of orders. It's just too much money for a business to lose so they have to accept the bad rep and not honour the price.

Just checked my bank balance and the money has been debited from my account. Does this mean I will get the card or can they still legally cancel the transaction?

they can still cancel and refund you the money. it hasn't been debited from my account yet, showing as incompleted transaction, so probably no 570 triSLI for me :(
