2013 cars?

Next year is looming, and the crowd said they might considering issuing 131 and 132 cars in lieu of just 13D, 13KK, etc, because they fear superstition might hinder the sale of cars next year. Would you drive a 13D car ?

I am not superstitious in the slightest and would drive 13D1313

I would have no problem buying a 13 reg car, probably be 5-6 years before i can afford to buy it though.

Last car we hired had the reg xyz 66613 - I spent the holiday waiting for us to plunge off a cliff in it in a fireball. . We didn't though, which was good. So maybe I am a tad supersticious. It was the 666 bit that got me though, not the 13 - it could have been the Yaris from hell.

Also a lot of hotels dont have rooms with 13 in it eg 213 or 313.

On a side note years ago in work someone charged €40 to room 313 before i learnt this. Got a bollicking for that.

Back in auld Gods time under the old three letter registration system the reg for Kilkenny was IP. Would love to know what the effect on car sales was when "RIP" came around. 666 RIP way to go!

FL, SD and DR are reserved for the Dublin local authorities. Whether they'll ever get used or not, I don't know.

Anyone who buys a car younger than 3 yrs old will lose big time, but then there are the people who feel they need to keep up with the Jones,

this would filter into every part of living, trying to look like they can sit on the top of the list while knowing around the corner they are heading to the bottom of the list,

there are some folks who can afford to get a new motor (or new anything else) with no pressure and the best of luck to them,

as for me I will be buying the 3 year old motor or even 5 year old motor (value) as with laptops, phones, computers and face cream.

Just noted the latest piece of claptrap from the auto trade in the Examiner...the reason for the change in reg for 2013 is not superstition but to 'even out' demand for new cars in the new year.
Somehow they chose 2013 to do this.

It's a fcuking joke anyway. Having a dual registration system like this will not in any way help car values because the year is still on the car anyway. It's always going to be a 13 reg no matter what way you look at it.

Also, while you're considering these things, why do some counties have two letters and others have one, e.g. Mayo=MO, Dublin=D. Wouldn't it make sense to standardize them all to two letters?

Because some local authorities merged their registration systems and some didn't. Limerick City Corporation and Limk Co. Council didn't and each registers their own hence L and LK, and W and WD in Waterford. Cork and Galway did and just use the one letter city registration for the whole county. I assume Dublin is the same.

Tipperary has two separate county councils, Tipp North Riding and Tipp South Riding, hence TN and TS.

I'd guess at DY for Derry. Usually it's the first and last letter of the county so that would make sense. Unless there are counties with the same ending so they use a different letter, e.g. WD and WX.

The story that it is being done because of superstition was dremt up by some hack on a slow news day, its being done to ensure that car sales are more even throughout the year.
