I simply cant afford to go out anymore so I have given up brewski time with the boys, but not by choice!

I am MILLING for a night out for weeks now but when I divide the wages I cant afford it

Not a hope. Its too much a part of my life and its far too much fun. We would usually be in the pub at least twice a week with at least one heavy session per week. For instance this week went straight after work Monday night and had a few while playing darts and straight after work again yesterday and had a good scatter of drink.

I think three weeks is the longest I've gone without drinking in the 10 or so years since I started drinking properly and that was only once.

Probably.
I drink about one pint of beer a week, on average. I don't think I'd miss it all that massively.

It depends on the person. It's good for some to go out for a few every now and again. But some of us take it too far. I've had enough of being sick and depressed half of the time because of it so I haven't had any in 4 nights, I think the most I've gone is 5 in the last 10 years so I'm determined to stay clean for a while now. It really can destroy you if you can't control it.

Unless you have a serious drinking issue then I don't see any reason to give up. I drank a lot during my 20's, a little maturer now and I now go out to enjoy a drink instead of going out to get wasted. I also find myself drinking less beer and more single malts these days which also helps keeping the gut from hiding my feet when I look down.

Oh well, they've changed the prayers , and the communion bread is made of chocolate , the Our Father is now Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and instead of shaking hands and peace being with you, you now partake in a Rock, Paper, Scisscors game with the person beside you. Oh and at the end of the mass, everybody gets to kick the priest up the arse... I think that's replaced the genuflection. Anyway, you should give it a try some time.

I managed to give up the drink for two years after it generally was getting me into trouble. For the most part it was fine, I saved money, got fitter and was generally congratulated by most people I met. I wouldn't have had a very high tolerance for those who tried to persuade me to take a drink.

However, I have to confess that my social life was so much DULLER sober. I cannot think of another way of describing it. Especially after the novelty wore off. Perhaps this is a poor reflection of my personality, but I generally had to force myself through nights, the other people became intolerable after midnight or so and the whole experience just felt like something I had to endure rather than a source of pleasure. Talking to girls who were drunk when I was sober almost felt sleazy or something, although I am very aware that the solution to this is talking to them sober when they are in a similar state, but that's another argument.

The worst was when I went to Australasia and the Far East, having to explain to new people every day why I did not drink got fairly tiresome, especially when so much of the backpacker culture involves alcohol.

I am more sensible these days with my drinking and can easily have sober nights every so often if necessary, but I would not like to completely deprive myself again, if I can help it anyway.

Besides, using sterilized needles makes things safer for everyone involved. It avoids any improper infection, making cause of death easier to rule. Also, having sterilized needles prevents staff members from getting any infection due to cross-contamination.

Going to the pub and not drinking is like going to five a side football and not playing . Why people have the cheek to sit there and pull faces when you get trollied is completely spoiling the sport .
You can go out and have fun without drinking but usually you are doing it at the expense of everyone elses fun .
Could non drinkers please take note and start partaking in these group outings . I dont go to your book club to watch you read and tutt when you are reading too fast.

Except for the odd hot whiskey and glass of red with meals I don't really drink. If I'm going out I just drink soft drinks instead. I don't really miss it tbh. If I get any hint of a hangover I end up feeling depressed and anxious for a few days so I'd rather do without that.

I gave it up before and you feel great after a while. I do drink now but not as much as I used to. I mostly drink wine, and I don't really count that as drinking. The stuff is more medicine than anything. Lovely, lovely medicine.

No it doesn't

I did give up drinking for the month of January last year. The physical aspect of not being able to have a drink didn't bother me in the slightest and I did save a fortune aswel but my social life was boring as fuck.

I rarely went out at night because my friends were always on the piss and I can't stand being around drunk people. That's not having a go at my mates, that goes for nearly all drunk people. They're just on a different wavelength to a sober person

I drink one night a week, it's extremely seldom I'd do so a second night, and the latter would be very little. I enjoy it - I don't always get pissed, and I never have a drink with work next day, nor do I feel the need to do so; therefore I do not have a problem, I just don't want to give up something I enjoy. You can do that and still be healthy and feeling good for the rest of the week.
