Tbh it sounds like a software issue to me-in my experience hardware usually works or doesn't. Is the BIOS set to AHCI mode for the SSD? You could also try disconnecting everything except the LCD, k.board & mouse and use only the SSD and one stick of RAM to see what happens..might be an attached peripheral that is causing your system to hang.

if you have a different HDD you know works, you could install the OS to this in case it is the SSD..Have you tried a fresh install of windows to rule out a corrupt windows install? Might be worth a shot.

I'm just a fraying a little at the edges after my computer - Breaky McGee - has been acting up for so long.

I have, I think, narrowed the problem down to being either a loose power connection in my boot drive - which has no mounting because it's a 2.5" SSD so it's held to the case with a bit of plastic - or else one of my HDDs is a bit wonky - presumably the one that couldn't be detected.

I moved all my old OS (windows 7) folders over to that HDD because I wasn't sure if it was wise to delete them when I formatted the drive they were on. Could that be a problem?

Heh. PC's can have a habit of getting the blood boiling when they're acting the glue bag..

Glad you've narrowed it down. Some people mount their SSD's by gluing a bit of velcro onto the SSD and another bit to the case, should sort issues like cables coming loose if its moving about..

Not sure what you mean about the win 7 bit, if you created a mirror copy of the original HDD to another HDD should be fine, drag and drop does not play nice when copying system files due to hidden files & folders etc.

Edit; Re-read your post; I think it may not be wise to have two different OS' on two different HDD's, especially if the Win 7 one was installed on a different PC-may have different motherboard drivers etc.

Though if the BIOS detected two OS', it would give you a choice AFAIK..not an expert on dual booting etc. maybe one of the others here might be able to confirm.

It's definitely the HDD.
It's astonishingly clear cut. I can barely boot with it connected. Everything runs ridiculously slowly.

However, if I manage to get to device manager and disable the drive, within 5 seconds my computer acts as if nothing was ever wrong and acts completely normally.

I'm thinking a format will be necessary. The next question is - how do I do that when my PC can't function with the HDD connected? Also, how do I copy all the files from it that I don't want deleted?
There's a solid TB of stuff on it I can't afford to lose.

Happy days. The easiest way would be to buy an external hard drive enclosure like this one, and fit the drive into it. Then fire up windows, when its fully loaded plug the USB for the HDD enclosure into your PC, and copy & paste the media files you want. I would suggest formatting it when finished to get rid of the old OS files. Sorted.:)

was wondering can 100eu (even less) can buy a nice mechanical keyboard?

from what i read mechanical keyboards are heavier? that would be a great advantage for me.

Any keyboards to look in to?

i iwsh i could try them in real life and see which switch works for me.

So far i kept my eyes on K60 ( red switches? ). Razers black widow looks looks like an option.

Well actually, thought I had the other day that sort of ties in with that:

How would people feel about a PC B&U Appreciation Day, of sorts? Got the idea from when my dad had a Porsche. He used to go to Porsche day out things. Basically where people show up with their Porsche, and talk Porsche all day. I think it'd be nice to see some of the hardware people have (I myself would love a look at a Catleap in real life) and generally to compare notes and the like.

We could chip in and rent a room in a hotel or something. Maybe get a bit of a LAN going as well or some such.

Thoughts?

Bear in mind though, that a lot of those keyboards are US layout, not UK. The only UK ones you'll get are QPads, some Razers, Logitech (whenever it's released), Cooler Master, and Corsair.

Best thing is too google it or look on to YouTube. A lot of good explanations there m8.

Initially I didn't like Blues at all because I found them very loud, but now I'm thinking I'd like that noise... pity no-one has a good Blue keyboard yet.

I should mention that my definition of a good keyboard, is one that's backlit, UK layout, and has dedicated media keys. Something like a blue version of Logitech's G710+ would be perfect. Or a white backlit version of Corsair's K60.
