WRH proposed downgrade - protest on Saturday the 23rd of Feb

Heard him talking on WLR this morning re: a hospital review group and possible spliiting up/disbanding of south-east hospitals:

WRH tacked on with a Cork hospital
Kk with some Dublin Hospital
Wex with some Dublin hospital

If you think funding for WRH is bad now, this will kill WRH off altogether.

WHAT THE HELL are paudie, deasy, conway up to, absolutely f-all by the looks of it. I cant think of a single reason why we would vote for them in next local/gen election. FG/Lab is a f-ing joke in Waterford at this stage, I didnt think I would be considering FF for about 2 gen elections at least.

MOD EDIT: Its a long thread but the short and sweet version is that a lot is being done by some TDs behind the scene. Some of the South East counties are in favour, some have politicians who are not. Its a mixed bag but a lot is being done to fight against any potential downgrade - which at the moment is based on a leak. One such fight is a protest march by the 'Save Waterford' and 'Waterford Gives A Shirt' Groups.

The protest is on Saturday, 8th Nov at 12pm. Starting on Ballybricken then making its way to Red Sq. No parking tickets will be issued during this period, according to the Save Waterford Facebook page and a number of venues are offering bits and bobs for the campaign. Tis on the RTE News site as a main front page article, TheJournal.ie and it has been on the last two news bulletins on 2fm.

Great to see such a large turnout for the Save Waterford Campaign. Its fantastic that they are focusing on this one major issue and raising awareness. But its important for everyone to know that a march wont do anything - there is a lot more to do be done and I think a protest to the Dail is in order.

If we are to save WRH, we need to fight tooth and nail ourselves also.

However, it was disappointing to see people try to hijack the event for their own agenda. A number of Socialist Party members were handing out leaflets advising people to say no to the Household Charge. I have no objection to them raising their own issues with the government but it would have been nicer if they kept to themselves and didn't hijack a much more important issue.

The media were there. I saw RTE reporter Damien Tiernan with cameraman on the Quay. This will be on RTE News later.

And I hate to say it but that was down to the rushed organisation of the protest. Galway would have hired PR gurus to make sure the place was flooded with media. It's this kind of attitude, this sense of entitlement, that, partly, has us where we are. We need to do these things ourselves or never expect them to get done.

Today was a fine example of that, we all stood up and took action, not waiting for someone else to do it.

The Senate is a talking shop for failed TDs and party stooges on all sides. It serves no purpose and costs a small fortune. It is dead. Dump it. I would agree with your comments about Councillors.

We need to revert to a voluntary citizen's council. Regarding numbers, if you applied the UK ratio per MP (132,000) in Ireland we would have 34 TDs approx.

One TD is more than enough for a County the size of Waterford. And as for the proposed "merger" (downgrade of Waterford City) it appears that two administrative tiers will remain in Waterford City and Dungarvan. Waterford City will only lose two Councillors - with the Council meetings alternated between both.

If anything it would cost MORE to run.

Because they are no Good. When two of their members in Tramore took a stance earlier this year, the rest of them ganged up on them like wolves would on sheep. A lot of them had a lot to say about Bertie Ahearne and his dig outs, but I cant remember many of them apart maybe from the two in Tramore that had anything to say about Fred Forsey.

A person in say Ballyduff Upper, Tallow or Clashmore can get to Cork much quicker than they can get to WRH. We should be arranging our Hospitals so that you attend the one the is closest to you that offers the service you need and not what county you live in.

One of the best cases for getting rid of the Senate I've seen yet, that guy is a fool. WRH actually got top marks in the country for a hospital its size, so far from the worst, its actually the best, despite being underfunded.

Yeah.... great took long enough . Along with the other "representatives" we have in the Dail it's only when they realised the intensity of feeling this issue has generated in their constituencies that they've come out on the airwaves and print media to justify their positions . Let them stand up in the Dail and state categorically their utter opposition to this move a la Matty Mc Grath who's not even representing our constituency . Let them stop with the optics and get up and fight for the people they represent.

I assume that Sen. d'Arcy is basing this statement on using helicopter transport. He's got it all carefully calculated you know, regardless of the patient's location in Wexford.
