Yeh got that far meself :P but didnt know what to do then.

Oddly though, the problem has fixed itself. Odd.

EDIT: Scratch that, still got the problem. Was booting into windows but was crashing Steam and anytime I attempted to access

. Hit F11 upon reboot, it does not want to use drive 0 (designated m4, has to be my SSD) but booted from drive 1, which has no windows install? Thouroughly confused hah.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and updating the UEFI to the latest version?

I get random fails like this on my motherboard too, sometimes it randomly decides to use the HDD instead of the SSD. When it happens I load into the Boot Menu on startup and select the SSD as the boot device to use and it works fine again after that.

On my motherboard to open the Boot Menu I hold F8 on the UEFI start screen, on my laptop it's F12. There should be a message on screen as the UEFI is loading. It might help with the annoying not starting but unfortunately I don't think it will help recognising the HDD

they sent another clamps by international signed on on monday and the tracking number they gave me shows nothing and I enquired from special why was this

they replied

"Royal Mail Signed For usually updates when the item is recieved at your local depot and is being prepared to be delived. The system should update within the next day or so. Please be advised that this is an international overseas service, so takes a little longer than UK mainland postage. The item is on its way to you."

It's one bad experience. I don't mean to sound mean, but I wouldn't let this put people off. I've dealt with them, including RMAs, and they were always quick and professional about it.

The reason the tracking number doesn't show anything, is the same reason every tracking number doesn't show anything; it hasn't been picked up by the courier yet. It's still sitting at the warehouse, and that's not Specialtech's fault.

I think summats up with my processor now too. I get a slight plastic smell (Maybe thats normal for a new Pc) and the air coming out of the top is very hot. Using the stock cooler. Gonna run some temperature tests.

Been a while!

Still running a D0 i7-920 @3.7. Upgraded the storage to a total of 7tb and a intel ssd for OS (win8 legit as of Tues evening there)

Have my 570gtx running at 892core and 2006memory @1.1v.

Also had a full mobo (asus p6t) of memory modules but one of them is gone dodgy, so down to 10gb now. After some basic testing it might be the ram slot but i'm not arsed getting a new mobo yet.

I've replaced everything in it except the cpu at this stage so it can wait until i do a new system.

I'm a bit out of the loop with the new cpu/gpu tech; lack of finances meant I didn't want to look for fear of impulse buying!

So talking to Royal Mail I was right

Its either they gave me the wrong tracking number or they are lying about posting it in the 1st place. Also the type of tracking number they gave me would be send via Royal Mail post......

The minute that hit a Royal Mail depot, that would of come on the website

Some good and bad news. Specialtech and myself have given up on the clamps arriving and they are pursuing Royal Mail about where the packages went

They have refunded me 10 pounds. Ill be getting jubilee clips from a diy store instead

I gave out about special tech but the customer service was really good and I think they have learned about using cheap methods of posting to Ireland

Say what you want about W8 but between it and my new SSD bootup is taking about 4 seconds.

Haven't had much else to fiddle around with yet but it seems fine on first impressions.

Hopefully I can get my internet fixed tomorrow so I can download all the drivers I need for the other parts of my PC and activate Windows.

Ah crap. My front usbs are also not working. I thought it might be bitfenixs problem. If its thr motherboard **** it no way Im going through all that stress to fix the issue.

It is exceptionally quick alright.

Slowest part of mine is the actual mobo post and then bam, i'm at the lock screen.

Well, I boot my pc once a day. So I can live with that 20sec boot time of win 7 with ssd.

I prefer to have a good OS over the half arsed desktop os.

With all this win 8, business, I checked Ubuntu/limux on YouTube. And holy crap how good it is. If it would have steam support I would be gone there in seconds.
Plus if someone's pc is only for general use, like web browsing, Facebook, mail etc I don't see the reason for people to buy windows at all.

I wonder would windows 8 fail help out good old Linux? I am prety sure there are tons of gamers, who would switch from windows to anything else if their games would work on that new Os.

Agreed. Once Steam for Linux really gets off the ground (i.e. actually has a selection of most of my common games) I'll be changing it to no. 1 in my boot list.

I saw a list of 20+ games that are already Linux compatible on Steam but can't seem to find it today. I have Ubuntu 12.10 as my first boot OS but I always switch to Windows coz it doesn't have video chat over MSN and I can't play Farming Simulator on it :P

Microsoft would really need two bad OSs in a row for a big switch over to Linux. After Vista, I was planning to go with them myself as my main OS - XP was getting old and Vista was buggy and slow to start with as well as not really improving usability. Turned out that they did a good job with 7 though - taking out a lot of crap that came with Vista and improved many areas long neglected such as the basic programs. Then there's all the background stuff too.
I see Windows 8 as a Vista - it's a beta, they're trying some new stuff. They're not really listening to what people want in many ways but sometimes you need to push out new ideas. Hopefully Windows 9 will be refined, scrapping the bad ideas that didn't work and goes back to listening to what is wanted, needed and a natural interface.

I'm just hoping that Chrome OS doesn't gain popularity.

Did you check that they are properly plugged into the header? Try a different header on the board, but be careful not to use the firewire one as it looks the same.
