I may also have stocked up on a fair few cartridges. In hindsight, I was over-reacting, but we ate the tinned stuff and still have the ammo, so it was all good. Then again, I do tend to buy up all the smokes in my brand from the local shops the eve before the budget, so I may be a closeted prepper.. the smokes have never gone to waste either though...

What I would personally ask is: if Doomsday really comes, and civilisation turns in to something from a Dystopian movie, would I want to survive? What would I hope to achieve by that? What qualities do I have that make me important to survival of the human species? I can't think of any. I don't just want to survive, I want to live. I wouldn't want to put myself through hell just for the sake of mere existence at any cost, and if I had kids, I certainly wouldn't want to do that to them. So when I hear about "doomsday preppers", I think of selfish people who have inflated opinions of themselves, their importance, and their chances of survival. They may just survive to find that there are fates worse than death.
