CS student - buying a laptop

Starting my first year studying Computer Science in TCD

Just wondering if there is any discount for buying a laptop as a Trinity student? Also, would it be better to have a smaller, portable laptop?

Edit: I'll probably be looking for a 13" PC laptop.
