Ex An Post Van

Looking at a few 2009 kangoos. Handy enough money €4300-€4500 (can claim the vat back).

Low enough kms and full service history.

What sort of buy would they be....it will be a work van, few tools in the back, mix of driving - could be in dublin one day and carlow/cavan/cork/tyrone the next.

I pass a compound full of them every day. lad I know bought one about 4 months back. I met him last week in a 12 reg caddy, asked him what was the story. He was sick to the back teeth of the "any post for me today?" jokes apparently..

I'd be worried about a low mileage ex An-Post van. I used to deal with the testing of these vans and I've seen 1 and 2 year old vans with massive mileage on them. Be sure of the mileage on it before you buy. As far as I remember the vans were leased through leaseplan and I've never seen a low mileage yoke sold off by them.

Finally a point to note, if the van has a dpf filter walk away...dpf filters are not suited to start stop driving and will be an expensive fix should it go..

In the plus side leaseplan do tend to keep the vehicles fairly well serviced.

as a post man them kangoos never gave any trouble other than consumables out here in the wild west, only thing i would be wary of is the clutch and the first 3 gears as my old one would be stop started about 120 times a day!!

I think I know the vans your talking about if they are in a dealer in dublin. I bought a van there last week and he was getting 2 of them in as I was leaving. The km's are low and they are mint inside and out. I'd imagine the mileage is genuine. The dealer seems far enough. I'd of bought one myself but wanted more of a car van than a van.

Google the reg - should show up on the Carnext bid sheet from when Leaseplan sold it - along with the mileage at sale.

In the original An Post tender it was specified that components on the vans were to replaced half the way through the expected life span, so no expense was spared on maintenance of the first lot of vans.

Whether that's still the case, I don't know.

The Kangoos Post vans were all fitted with heavy duty clutches, so most of them should be okay. My neighbor bought one. Spotless, serviced on the button and the back looks like new - only post bags thrown in and out of them. The little 1.5td nips along too.

I'd say that there a great buy.

only post bags? ha ha you obviously dont work for anpost then! some of the boxes and parcels esp car parts are bloody heavy!

Must have been a local van, this one was spotless! I can imagine heavy boxes in some of them though

Wouldn't fancy one on regular motorway spins, theyre ideal for around town though. I'd sooner a caddy if on the motorway frequently. If you're not found too much miles on the motorway its not a concern I suppose.

I've a nissan kubistar and it's a grand little van with the 1.5 dci engine....handy round town and grand on the motorway so something small again is the trick.

Maybe a respray with the money i save!!

The brother bought one. Prob one of his better buys in terms of vans tbh. Very reliable, high enough mileage but was serviced on the button and no trouble. He drove it around the bastard roads in Longford and it's still going. Easy on the juice too.

He never got asked any post today but there was a few comments in the first month or so. After a while the jokes grow old and mature ppl stop bothering cos it stops being funny.

I am a postman and drive one of those kangoos on the roughest roads Kerry has to offer,96k kms at this stage and not a bother.Be careful of the low milage though before they kept vans untill 85k kms although they are now running them untill 100k kms.Post vans usually get what they need durning their service life although they could have had a dog of a driver too!

mine was just replaced with a caddy :mad: pile of ****e! kangoo was way better, more power, more comfort and much tougher round the connemara roads too mine was up on 85k on an 09

Are you serious vw is overated hardly. Your point proves it. They are overated and overpriced specially with there commerical vehicles. We have had several Renault commercials master, megane van, trafic, and loads of kangoo and I wouldn't have one bad word to say about any of them Renault have great commerical vehicles and they are still way cheaper than Volkswagen. Your not the first person Ive heard complain about vw. So op definately have a look at the kangoo as it will serve you well as a van.

couldnt agree more! the caddy is a pain when pulling out of junctions as its nose is to long, it steams up badly, pain in the arse remembering starting with clutch down, rain pours onto the window switches when the window is down, only good thing is the side door!! kangoo all the way!!

Caddy is an overrated machine imo, the old ones we're a workhorse but the new ones are less then useful.

Looking at one of these to replace an old mazda 323 that looks like it will fail nct when it's up for test in the next couple of months. Are you guys saying (judging by the previous posts) that there is a pretty high chance that most of these ex an post vans advertised possibly have the millage corrected?

Anyone buy one or have experience of the new model, if so did you check that the millage is correct. also hows it going, reliable, economical, cost of service/repair, etc. Anything else to watch out for?

The post vans are generally not too bad just get a good mechanic to give it a thorough look over. Worst thing about the post vans is all the slagging and jokes. I'm sure being called post man pat all the time wears thin quickly.
