Cillian Murphy has been cast in the new BBC Two drama Peaky Blinders. The Dark Knight star will take the lead role in the new six-part gangster drama which was written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) and will be directed by Otto Bathurst (Black Mirror). The series follows Tommy (Murphy), a ruthless mobster whose family control the "lawless post-war slum neighbourhoods" of Birmingham in 1919. Tommy's family are known as the 'Peaky Blinders' due to their practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps, reports Deadline. Tommy finds his leadership under threat when a Belfast police chief arrives and challenges the crime family's reign. Peaky Blinders will begin shooting in September and will air on BBC Two in 2013.

Joss Whedon might be coming back to TV. ABC has ordered a pilot from Marvel TV executive produced by Whedon titled S.H.I.E.L.D. The project is set in the same universe as Whedon’s Avengers film and follows the law enforcement group headed by Nick Fury. The pilot will be written by Whedon and his brother Jed, along with Maurissa Tancharoen. Deadline reports that Whedon also might direct the pilot too. In the Marvel universe, S.H.I.E.L.D stands for which stands for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate (or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division). Production on the pilot is expected to begin ASAP.

................developing a follow-up TV series that will revolve around Axel Foley’s son, who is also a Detroit police officer about to undergo culture shock. The BHC series has landed at CBS, which gave it a pilot order. The premise, per Vulture, finds Aaron “Son-of-Axel” Foley fighting crime in Beverly Hills while trying to escape his father’s shadow. As first reported by Vulture, Murphy is set to reprise his big screen role intermittently, with Axel now serving as the Detroit police chief. Foley’s son, desperate to escape his dad’s shadow, relocates to Beverly Hills, where he presumably samples espresso with a little lemon tweeest and drives a crappy blue Chevy Nova, while bananas end up in tailpipes and such...........
