Is it possible to have a job you enjoy?

Hey folks, I've been having some doubts over myself and work lately. I'm 23 and luckily have always been working, nothing serious but i've always had some form of work. Lately I've been thinking about a career and a job that I might actually enjoy doing but I cant seem to find anything. And thinking about it, I've sort of hated every job I've ever had to date. I've done bar work, security, construction and lately I got myself a job in the kitchen of an award winning restaurant thinking I would enjoy cooking but I hate every second of it. So I'm just wondering am I just not cut out for working or does everyone else hate their jobs aswell or have the jobs I've had so far been just plain s***?

I hate the actual "work" in my job (call centre), but the people are sound so I'm happy out for the time being.

I think it's possible for some people, difficult/impossible for others. I'm pretty convinced that I'll never have a job that a truly love that simultaneously allows me to live the life I want to lead.

Look at what you like to do in your spare time and try find jobs related to that. If you like playing games then testing is an easy one to get into, dev is difficult but achievable with the right training. If you like computers at all then there is plenty of work around if you get yourself the right training.

Most of your jobs seem to be physically demanding so maybe that's what you don't like about them. If so then avoid those jobs if you can help it.

If it's just that you don't like working to somebody else's rules then find something you like to do that has enough demand to be a potential business and become an entrepreneur. Its difficult but very rewarding.

Ask yourself also - is it really the work you hate and/or just working for others instead of yourself?

Your inner answer might help you with a new direction.

Yes, I work from home doing PC repairs(mainly software) and I luv it.

It's a hard slog travelling from the bedroom to the loungeroom via the kitchen.

If I have no work to do I can stay in bed as long as I like on these cold winter mornings.

I'm in the same dilemma, I recently quit a job I hated and because I've hated all the jobs I've done so far, I actually find not working to be better for my self esteem and mental health, actually wondering if it might be better to not work given the unhappiness I encounter when I'm in these lousy jobs, I'm fully aware that most folk would rather win the lotto and be sat by the beach, however the stress and depression I experience in offices and call centre's far outstrips the mere 'not wanting to be in work' feeling.

GTFO. Do not waste your life in a crap job you don't like because the people around you are sound or a bit of craic. They will move on and so should you. I've stopped myself quitting a job before because there were good people working there. You will regret the time you wasted.

I don't think you should do your hobby as a job, not usually. Certainly find something that suits your temperament and your interests, but trying to make a job of your hobby just ruins both.

I think pilots have a great job (well the non-Ryanair ones anyway) - You get to fly off somewhere nice. Park up the Jumbo. Head to the hotel. Clean up, then dinner and a few drinks. Retire for the evening and await the tap on the door from a trolley dolly and then its up up and awayayyayyyeyhey again.

This is why you were never out of work , you're prepared to do the crap jobs , and haven't been spoilt yet with a handy number......yet

Well done With a work ethic like that you'll go places, just find something you really like and it's not work.

Maybe ask to go on the floor of the current restaurant you work in and see if the large tips improve things for you before you move on.

in America pilots can qualify for welfare they get paid so little.

Ah yeah you're right, but this isn't a career move, just something to bring in decent money every week. I plan on leaving in the next month or two anyway
