Katie Taylor has joined the ranks of Andy Murray and Gareth Bale.

She is winning, so apparently she is British.

The Daily Telegraph is playing a blinder today.

After posting a picture of the Dutch bronze medal winning equestrian team under a headline relating to the British gold medal winning equestrian team (easy mistake to make, sure don’t Britain wear orange too?) they have now gone and claimed Katie Taylor is British.

Ehhh no...

She hails from Bray, not Britain.

Them across the water can keep their hands off.

They have received plenty of medals so far in London.

Katie is our 4-time World champion, 5-time European champion and soon to be Olympic champion.

In the programme Colin is considered a very successful ‘fish out of water’ in LA and the line of questioning was exploring how the Americans view him. Kate was ‘claiming’ Colin as our own in an ‘inclusive’ It went like this.
KATE THORNTON: Now lets talk about Colin because in the UK he’s become the man of the moment.
SAMUEL L.JACKSON: Really? Only in the UK?
KT: Well everywhere but we kind of claim him as our own because he’s from Ireland.
SLJ: You can’t claim him because he’s from Ireland.
KT: Well we do because it’s close by. (laughter)
SLJ: Ok. That’s the source of all the conflict over there. You people always claiming the Irish as yours. We got a little problem just like that here called slavery but that’s ok we don’t need to talk about that so lets go. (more laughter)

I've seen multiple varients of that Samuel L. Jackson/Kate Thornton interview pop up over the years yet I've never met anyone who's seen it and it's not up on Youtube. How odd.

Never heard of The Beatles being deemed Irish.

O'Leary is actually Irish.

The Gallaghers are British but of Irish background.

As for the footballers, they are not countless and they claim to be Irish not the other way around.

And any media here in Ireland, TV or published word has referred to the above mentioned as Irish.
Any one of those people, in an interview in Ireland always gets the "tell us how Irish you are so we can love you more" question!!

bit of a non story... how many people claimed Andy Lee was irish when he was fighting? even though he fought out of limerick he was from England, of irish decent. Katie was born here, here father is english..

If you want to find threats to our nationality we should really look alot closer to home, watching fecking coronation street, the papers, united/city/arsenal supporters..blah blah blah..

The gallaghers is a well known one, their parents are Irish, all their family are Irish.

Noel once said on the late late that he was asked to write a song for a football tournament for England and said no because of his Irish roots.

The Beatles? WTF!!

Dermot O Leary always says he's Irish.

Most of the footballers claim Irish because they can't get a game for England.

The Irish media always claim celebrities to be Irish of some sort, whether it's a cousins dogs pup or a bastard child's 10th cousin that spent a day in Longford.
