I'm thinking of going for this card but I would be really stretching to buy one of them. Which one would you go for the single fan or dual fan and would one be a good buy around €150 or is there better value in the new market?

What res are you running? That should decide if you go for the 1GB or 2GB card. Say's he isn't splitting though... Sorry I mis read it - go with the better cooling imo.

1GB will be fine at 1080p but will take a hit at any higher resolutions and maybe in the near future when more taxing games come out. But for now it's perfect at 1080p and to get a 6950 for €150 is a pretty good price too.

As for the better cooling, you can never make an assumption like that, the only way to tell which cooler is better/quieter is look up reviews of both cards. But since they are both Sapphire cards the dual fan version is most likely quieter and better at cooling, but that's just a guess. Sapphire is a good brand and both cards should be good anyway.

PC is up and running and I've been playing the odd game or two. Can anyone tell me If my temps are okay? I thought because of my older case and chosen components, it would be running hot. They seem low but low is relative and its not easy to judge when I've never checked on temps before...Screenshot of HWMonitor attached. You can see what the components are from the screenshot. Stock heatsink on the CPU btw.

Yeah thats fine. My CPU runs about 25 idle, but that's with a H100.

Thanks Skylinehead. Is there any other tests/benchmarks I should run at this stage? Anything else I should check on? Maybe there's a thread/guide floating about here? Everything runs fine on the system so far. Very impressed.

Are these your temps at idle, or were you running some program at the same time?

I realise it's a stock heatsink, but have you tried running Prime95 just to be extra sure about what your temps would be under load? Seeing as it's a new PC, running Prime could also be beneficial, as all the extra heat will allow the new thermal paste to settle in.

Idle temps aren't that important; it's your temps under load that you should be checking.

I get very similar temps to that on idle with the Thermalright HR-02 Macho cooler. I think I screwed up the thermal paste application so I bought Arctic MX-2, I wonder will it make a difference?

Yeah these are idle temps. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't running very hot, even at idle. I ran Arma2 Op Arrowhead benchmark on full settings and my graphics card (7850 oc edition) is showing 63°C max. CPU temp was 39°C max, altho the cores show higher; about 54...this game is obviously going to use the GPU more but these temps are fine yeah?

I highly doubt that your CPU temps were 39c max with the stock CPU cooler. You could be looking at the wrong values. I personally use "Core Temp", as it's a lot easier to read.

If you want to reallyknow for sure that your temps are stable, then I would advise you run Prime95 for at least ten or fifteen minutes. If you're running an AMD processor, you should really be trying to keep your temps below 60c. Intel CPUs can go much higher - anywhere around 70-80c is fine.

Remember that in reality your temps will never be anywhere near what they might be in Prime95, so don't worry if it goes slightly over what could be considered a "safe" temperature.

Those temps are great!

Games usually aren't very good at producing very high temps as they don't fully stress your components. Running a game or game benchmark is great for seeing the actual temps you will usually be getting but if you want to see the worst case scenario temps you are best running Prime95 like Sound of Silence recommended for the CPU and Furmark for the GPU. These will stress both your CPU and GPU pushing them to their limits.

more than likely, yeah. You can phone up microsoft and explain the issue and they'll give you a new license so long as it wasn't OEM

On a completely unrelated note, I managed to disable the lights on a superflower PSU today with absolutely no ill effects. Warranty is gone now, but hey, I'm not too fussed. Might be upgrading to a nice modular yoke sometime, get some purty sleeved cables

it was actually really easy, the LEDs are moulded into the fan bracket thing and are powered by the fan header, so they aren't affected by the PSU at all. I literally just opened up the PSU, pulled the fan out a bit, and cut the LED wires out with a scissors. Definitely not a clever way to have done it, though, I was afraid the fan might not be a complete circuit any more about halfway through. Dumb luck it worked, although I'm pleased it did.

Does liquidy (water) stuff come out in every spray from a can of compressed Air?

I've only ever used an ancient compressor I had lying around, bought a few cans of dirt cheap air in a €1.49 shop a few days ago but when I spray it on my hand it's abit damp for a few secs after, are they all like that?

Once you don't shake it and as long as you hold it upright there shouldn't be any noticeable moisture. Give the can a short blast before spraying it on components, and it kinda goes without saying but make sure the system is off!!

You could be cheeky and bring your PSU to a filling station and use the tire pump. Just hold it a nice bit back in case the pressure is too strong!

Someone made a good point a while back that the filling station air pumps can have water in them condensed from the air which won't do your components any good.
